Ostrav's Outcasts

Former trade apprentices in the town of Ostrav , a close encounter with the Abyss convinced these young people to give up their mundane lives and try their hand at adventuring. Packing up their belongings, they now share a suite at the Vaasan Gate and signed themselves up on "The Board" as Ostrav's Outcasts.

NIXA VOLSETTI

Stalwart and protective, Nixa Volsetti knows her way around a sword and shield. She spent her early years as a farmer, but has since taken up her parents’ mantle as a defender of the countryside against the ever-present goblin menace.

NOLARIA WINTREN

Bold and inquisitive, Nolaria Wintren studied under Ostrav’s head priest of Silvanus and was a friend to many of the settlement’s apprentices. The Outcasts consider Nolaria the glue that holds them together. She often went on excursions with her compatriots that many in Ostrav disapproved of and considered dangerous. Nolaria was closest to the young alchemist Gellion of all the apprentices, and took his betrayal and subsequent death hard.

Morvinarr

Morvinarr stands 5'9", weighs 155 lbs., and has brown hair and eyes. He was once an apprentice cook and back-up bouncer at the Witches' End Inn in Ostrav, but now is starting his own career. He is a dreamer, but has more common sense than brains.   Morvinarr wears chainmail and shield; carries a longsword and a dagger.

Pavolus

Pavolus Laternawas the apprentice of cobbler Dependable Drummady, brother of Betrona.   Young Pavolus stands 5'4" and weighs 125 lbs. He is fair-haired and has innocent blue eyes. If caught, he puts on his "Who? Me?" face. Pavolus dresses like a fighter and tells people he is a forester. In truth, he is a thief for hire, and has a promising future. Pavolus does not steal for fun.   He carries a shortsword, dagger, 2 javelins.   Back in Ostrav, Pavolus was the impetus for many a daring scheme. He is the fun-loving, comedic member of the Outcasts. The recent inclusion of Claudius in the group has completely broken Pavolus' cool. He stutters and blushes whenever he speaks to or about the elven wizard. Pavolus is smitten in a way he has never experienced (or would have had the chance to) back in Ostrav. The fact that Claudius is completely oblivious to this amuses the other Outcasts to no end.

Carlo Escoro

Carlo Escoro was a former shepherd in Ostrav. An encounter with the Magnificent Seven which saved his farm emboldened the young man to tie his fortune to the other Outcasts. Carlo's way with animals and time spent in the fields has given him the abilities of a ranger, but at the Gate, he studies with some of the more experienced druids, and plans on joining a circle soon.   Carlo wears studded leather, he carries a crook (quarterstaff), 2 bottles of holy water, and is quite good with his bola, an unusual weapon. He has been seen outside the Gate showing Orbash how the bola works, which has gained him a few admirers. The young shepherd gets flustered easily around some of the more forward ladies.   Carlo is 19, has black hair, has hazel eyes, stands 5' 9", and weighs 163 lbs. He is moody: at one time he believes in mercy, and at another he believes that the only good snake is a dead snake. He feels her job is more to tend to the wounds and spiritual needs of the party than to fight.

Claudius Cloudgazer

Since leaving Ostrav and setting up shop at the Vaasan Gate, the Outcasts have met and recruited Claudius Cloudgazer, an young elven wizard who has caught Pavolus' attention.   Claudius is pale, has pale blond hair and watery blue eyes, stands 5'8", and weighs 154 lbs. A Moon Elf, Claudius looks very young. A brother of his was a fighter and died on an adventure. He earned his nickname because he often gets caught up in the moment and can spend a day just gazing at the clouds. Sometimes he is too cautious, but he never turns his back on a friend.   He is enjoying his new friends immensely, having never spent so much time in human company. He particularly enjoys spending time with Pavolus, although his friends inability to complete a statement without tripping over his own tongue confuses him.

In Memoriam - Gellion

Gellion Vazarro lived in this two-story house with his parents, Altius and Beldonna Vazarro. The two are landowners and also factors, conducting business on behalf of many of the area’s farmers to get their goods to market. When their son Gellion showed interest in alchemy, they encouraged him, believing that such training plus the good business sense they had instilled in him would lead him to become a respected and influential member of society. When he grew more distant in recent weeks, they assumed he was simply absorbed in his studies. They never imagined that he had been corrupted by demonic influence.   Gellion had encountered a strange substance (Demon Bile ). Not knowing what it was, he did what any alchemist would do, brought it to his home laboratory and studied it. Unfortunately for Gellion, after exhausting his other senses, he tasted the substance. Shortly after his exposure to the bile, Gellion began hearing strange buzzing and screeching sounds that, as he slipped deeper into madness, began to sound like instructions. Before he followed this monstrous siren call to the abandoned warehouse, he first enacted its hideous demands in his own home. One night, while he was experiencing a particularly fevered waking nightmare, the vile instructions took him hypnotically through the steps of an ersatz Abyssal ritual.   He lured his friends to the warehouse and rendered them unconscious. They would be his sacrifices to the voices in his head. When Nixa was freed from captivity in the Goblin Highfort, she led the authorities in a raid on the warehouse. They were able to capture Gellion and purge the Demon Bile from the others. Gellion was too far gone. The young man was sentenced to the gallows and was hung only a few days after.   Before the encounter with the Demon Bile, Gellion was the ringleader of the apprentices, always finding new "quests" for the team and new areas to explore.
