There are many gadgets that originate from a simple, sometimes helpful, purpose. It’s only later that they are used for less than helpful situations. Fluxion Bracers are one of those items.

The Fluxion Bracer device was invented by Dr. Thyn Rak-Nell, lead researcher at the Medicinal Applications Institute in the Kryptonian city of Jant. Dr. Rak-Nell sought to find, or invent, a means to sedate a critically wounded patient without the use of electrochemical muon stabilizers. Such stabilizers, such as Redshift Covalent Oscillators, had been the device of choice but came with the risk of mental mutations to the patient.

To Dr. Rak-Nell’s dismay, while Fluxion Bracers are an effective means of sedation at low settings, the Kryptonian Military Caste discovered higher power output was also useful. At those higher settings, the bracers become a long-range weapon.

But, while the design of the Fluxion emitter crystals allowed for a higher power output, the energy can still only incapacitate a target. The higher power settings allow for the energy to be launched at a range toward a target, and incapacitate more quickly. Yet, the target is still only stunned.

To date, the Kryptonian Union issues the bracers to most units, such as Sentinel Troopers, as a ‘defensive’ weapon. Many Kryptonian units of the Military Caste incorporate the ability to fire ionic bolts from these braces in their combat training style and techniques.

Structure and Design

Fluxion Bracers are partially grown, partially manufactured, into their final form. The bracers are comprised of manufactured flexible carbon weave material with embedded metal plates just under the surface. Below these plates, a series of tuned crystals and a power source ring the circumference of the bracers.

These bracers have no ‘emitters’ as are found on Thanagarian or Earth-based devices that project energy. The ‘energy emitter’ for a Fluxion Bracer would be the wearer’s hands. But because of the design, the wearer suffers no harm.

The embedded crystals generate the energy for the ionic bolts around the wearer’s hands. To fire, the wearer points a gauntlet at a target and uses the hidden firing switch to release a bolt. The ionic energy bolt then flows off of the wearer and in a straight line to the target.
