Plans made by Wyldfire -- even "final exam via live exercise" plans -- seldom go smoothly. Tempest, the daughter of a United Nations ambassador, is not immune to this trend even if her stay is short.

Sticking to a theme with his newer Wyldfire agents, Professor Gironde sends Feral to chaperone Tempest during the latter's "final exam". Tempest is supposed to search NYC for an individual (hired for the simulation) going by the code name "Spawn".

Plans in Wyldfire very seldom match up with real events. The unexpected complication this time is a supervillain fight: Dr. Doom and a Seattle villain who calls himself "General Katana" have a huge battle in the penthouse of Katana's recently rented New York headquarters. Dark Angel gets knocked through multiple buildings by Dr. Doom as he tries to separate the two combatants. Tempest has a little better luck with Dr. Doom (who recognizes the element-controlling nobility of her native country, even in a domino mask and elegant costume) but less wtih Katana. Tempest decides, since Doom is willing to have a civil conversation, that she and Feral will blatantly side with Doom to halt Katana.

Dark Angel arrests the Seattle fugitive once Katana is sufficiently subdued. Dr. Doom recovers the items stolen from his sea base, and gets a confession in the process.
