General knowledge on the Sentinels

Often times throughout the lands of known civilization, statues with a seemingly constant flow of magic can be found. These are known as the Spell Sentinels, or magi who were frozen in the act of keeping a spell active. In doing so, the spell is kept active for as long as their statue stands. Many Sentinels found today provide such things as minor as purifying water to things as major as trapping a monster in an eternal barrier. Often times, they are responsible for keeping artificial Isles of Muul active.

On the origins of the Sentinels

It is not known exactly how the original Sentinels were created, however it has been found that it is possible to create temporary Sentinels with today's magic.

Recent Developments

As more Sentinels were discovered, it was found that some could be re-awoken. Most were found to have forgotten their past lives as a result of the spell. this often results in no longer being able to perform magic unless they were born of it.

Side Notes

Most sentinels appear as statues, but their materials often vary. Sentinels can range but rough stone to smooth marble to even gemstones. Not all sentinels are made of solid minerals, however. The strangest case being a fused bone structure in which the bone seemed to be still living material.
