Session 15: Raider Camp Infiltration
General Summary
After gathering information from within the keep the party leaves Nightstone at dawn. They tracked cult wagon tracks East across the grasslands before encountering straggling cult members feasting on some roasted hen, their weapons resting aside a rock near the fire. Hadden attempted to lure the cultists away from their weapons, meanwhile the rest of party ambushed them. They were dispatched easily and the group interrogated the remaining cultist and he told of their camp in the hills East and warned of a rearguard. The group continued on and after several hours saw the rearguard ambush in the rocky cliffside. Deciding it wasn’t worth the effort they circumnavigated around the hills North. After a few hours they reached the alcove containing the raiders camp.
They hid in the bushes around the cliffside and surveyed the camp and patrols. Prisoners were being used as labor slaves and treasure was being brought into a cave deep in the alcove. The party skirted around to the watchtower above the cave and killed the guards before they could blow the alarm horn. With the guard’s armor as a disguise the party scaled down a ladder into the cult’s camp. While in the camp the party learned this is a camp of the Cult of the Dragon. (Some cultists extend their right hand with fingers outstretched to represent the five heads of Tiamat when they praise her glory. Praise Tiamat’s glory!) The cult has been ranging far and wide on small raids to collect treasure. Nightstone was the closest and biggest of all the towns they’ve attacked. The cultists exclaim that the mother of dragons—praise Tiamat’s glory—shall return, and when that day comes, all the nations of the world shall tremble before her majesty!
Carefully the group passed the purple ornate tent of commander Langderosa Cyanwrath before seeing a monk tied to a post inside a guarded tent. Thoril tricked the guard into believing he was delivering slaves and overpowered the guard once inside the tent. The group rescued the monk and he identified himself as Leosin Erlanther, an expert on dragon cults and member of the Harper’s organization. He was discovered while spying on the cult and is using his capture to discover more about the cult’s intentions and next target. He tells the group that a black half-dragon named Rezmir is leading these raiders but had left the camp after the raid. He says that second in charge is the purple clad halberd wielder named Frulam Mondath, and that the intel they need are surely in Frulam’s chamber deep within the cave. The objective is clear, the intel to explain what’s motivating these attacks, where they plan to strike next, where the horde of treasure is going, and what it will be used for lies within the cave. The party must retrieve it and escape back to Nightstone where Leosin Erlanther and Governor Nighthill will be waiting.
As the party opens the tent flap towards the cave, a loud alarm horn bellows across the camp. A patrol of sentries finds the bodies in the watchtower and the camp goes on alert in a frenzy.
