Session 18: PCP vs Frulam Mondath

General Summary

Having dealt the mortal blow against the Cult Lieutenant Half-Dragon, PCP moved onward and upward using a rope ladder to enter a room in the ceiling above. Thoril lead the party into the room and drew shatterspike after hearing approaching footsteps. With Rowan and Dameila still climbing the ladder, Frulam Mondath enters the room and confronts Thoril, recognizing the prisoners he had capture the night before.
A vicious battle took place, with Hadden shattering the cultist guards, PCP moved up to finish off the purple robed Cult leader. But they had underestimated the ferocious dedication of Frulam, as she was surrounded by additional reinforcements, she healed their wounds and summoned spiritual imps to guard her escape. In a horrible moment, the cultists formed a defensive choke-point at the door, and felled all our heroes but Rowan. With just one guard left, Frulam made her escape, vowing that PCP would feel her revenge for this. Rowan slew the final guard and managed to save her allies lives once more with the last of Dameila's goodberries. Wounded but alive, the party searched the cultist's chambers to find the information they came for.
Spread open on one of the tables was simple map of the Sword Coast area showing the villages the cult attacked and looted. A circle was sketched around Nightstone with an arrow pointing south along the Long Road to Triboar and another arrow further south along the Old Road towards Waterdeep. A separate sheet of paper that is covered with numerals in columns contains the note, “ Everything must be freighted north to Naerytar. Rezmir allowed us to keep some pearls, a ring, and a handful of small stones.” PCP also collected several pages of bad poetry about dragons.
On the way out the group tried to interrogate a drunken cultist, but instead turned their interest to a chest of valuables and magic items the cultists had been unable to transport out the night before. Empowered with their magic wands, ring, cloaks, etc, the party caustiosly made their way out into the cultist raider camp. To their relief and surprise they found the camp abandoned and burnt down except for a tent of hunters. While initially uncooperative the hunters were charmed by Hadden's stories of the sea and told PCP the raiders had packed up and left South along the Old Road the night before. Wagon marks and trails of cargo debris backed up this story. It seems the map was correct in their movements.
After a short rest the party safely made their way back to Nightstone where they filled in Governor Nighthill about how the Cult was trying to raise Tiamat with the horde and transporting it south along the Old Road. The Governor paid them 250 gold each for their bravery and also paid Rowan an additional 200 gold for returning Lady Nandor's gold ring, Hadden and Dameila did not reveal nor return the raided treasure they found.
A feast is thrown at what remains of Morak Ur'Gray's Inn, and the town cheers and celebrates the triumph of "The Defenders of Nightstone". Morak requests that the party pass on a message to the ex-wife of Darthag Ulgar, who resides in Triboar. He passed away before the raid and his ex-wife Alaestra Ulgar who runs the trading post in Triboar needs to know so she can get the Nightstone Trading Post running again. Father Hiral Mystrum thanks Thoril for his services and hands him an invitation to undertake the Dawnbring trials should he reach The Spires of the Morning in Waterdeep. Hadden impresses the crowd of locals with is swashbuckling tales and spreads the words of his deeds. Dameila leaves to her bed early in the night, disturbed by the crowd below and a nagging feeling in her head that they missed something important. She reads through her dragon lore book, and a thought strikes her "Naerytar is not a settlement, we should find out more". Rowan finds a small girl crying to her mother after the recent loss of her father. Rowan comforts the small child, showing her that if she is brave and strong she can be a hero like Rowan. The girl and mother are grateful to Rowan for her kind words and embrace her. Though when Rowan returns to her bunk, her eyes well with the thoughts of her own lost family.

Leosin had arrived safely in Nighstone, embracing the group upon their return, but horrified at what he learns. He asks for the group to meet with him and his ally Ontharr Frume of the Order of the Gauntlet in Blackford Crossing as soon as possible. Leosin says the other Harpers but be told about this immediately but he would meet them up the road in Blackford Crossing. The group finds four horses rented for the trip, paid by Leosin and the harpers.
A man in a patched bandanna sips an ale at a seedy tavern named the Broken Bucket. The door opens and a long coated pirate smoking a cigar enters the room. He sits across from Patches, and a hushed conversation begins: "I hear there is a gnome sorcerer in these parts", "Maybe, who's asking", "My name is Basil Rathbone of the Ravenous, and I am very interested"
