Session 29: Welcome to Blasingdell
General Summary
Thoril reads his letter from his brother and says he will discuss it with the party over dinner tonight.
Rowan and the other sales their wares to Ginny Smitherson the blacksmith and discuss her family and traveling son. Thoril purchases a set of plate mail that was meant for Lord Borol.
The party visits the general store owned by Kheldegan Tolm where Rowan inquires if he has heard the name Trickfoot. He shows recognition but says he's never heard it. Rowan throws goods at him before being chased out with a club.
The town center is being prepared for the Midsummer festival in two days. There will be many games, prizes, and a grand tournament competition. PCP suggests signing up. But first they head to the Griffon's Nest.
At the tavern they eat and discuss their day, Dameila scorching Thoril's armor from a strong whisky drink. Many travelers from far lands fill the bar but there does seem to be some regulars, noticing a thug guarded women in a corner booth. The party listens to local gossip and rumors learning more about the orc raids and other troubles of the town. Ginny Smitherson drinks in the corner, closed for the day it seems. They look at the quest board and see the mayor has offered a 25 gp reward per orc head. They also notice another adventuring group named the Doomraiders have been completing some impressive tasks themselves. Thoril inquires and a patron exclaims that they are amazing heroes who may even come by the tavern. He says the leader known as "The Blade" has taken off 3 orc heads in one swing. The front door bursts open and a tall shining armored paladin walks through. The crowd begins cheering "Hail the Doomraiders! Hail The Blade! Hail Dame Eliana!" and cheering as they drink. The paladin orders two large whisky mugs and walks to the over balcony. Dameila notices a crouched figure in the corner has the face of a lizard when he sneezes but upon second glance sees a human face. In the other corner a loud card game has rising stakes as a old man laughs as he rakes in coins. Rowan goes to watch and notices the old man actually is a halfling, a moment later there is a tug on her pocket and 20 GP leaves unnoticed. Thoril bumps into the other paladin and gives an aggressive challenge. The paladin laughs in his face and suggests a test of strength to prove his valor. A simple push up contest is suggested, but Thoril is surprised when two large dwarves sit on each paladin's back as they start. Thoril struggles to do one pushup under the weight but is shocked as his opponent flexes and does several in a row. On the second attempt Thoril collapses as the crowd cheers and picks up Dame Eliana. As the paladin is hoisted into the air the helmet is removed and long blonde hair falls across the shining longsword of a beautiful and strong warrior. Leaving the crowd as they herald the strength of the blade, he rubs his arms and tells the group he is going to speak with Baron Althon to see if he can return the Hucrele armor to the rightful noble owner.
Following directions to the noble residential ward Thoril arrives at a gold wrought gate and meets Baron Althon. He hires the party to search for the legendary cache of weapons forged by Durgeddin the smith. He shows Thoril a broken blade bearing the smith's mark, and tells them that it was discovered near a rocky hill called the Stone Tooth. Baron Althon provides directions and promises to reward the characters richly for each of Durgeddin's blades they recover. He will pay the characters 20 gp each just for bringing back information about the dwarven complex, and an additional 100 gp if they provide detailed maps. But he warns that the orcs from the Tribe of Many Arrows has taken leadership under an Ogre named Great Ulfe and that they have been launching raids on the area from that location. He assures Thoril that he will return the armor at their next dinner party with the Hucrele family. He also says that Thoril could be of use to the Lords's Alliance downtown at the guild hall, or he may help the local nobles Borol and Pavarotti who have been in a land feud.
On the way back to the tavern Thoril notices the torches being lit by the town guard on the walls of the city. With a sudden cry a guard falls from the walls torch in hand landing deadly hard on the cobblestone. A black arrow sticks from his chest. There is the cry of a women as Thoril looks out the North Gate and see's a grouping of orc figures on a nearby hill lead by a hulking axe holding Ogre. As the warning horn begins to blow a hail of arrows rains from the sky right towards Thoril.
