Session 5 Report: The Goblin Lair

General Summary

As the adventuring party descended deeper into the Sunless Citadel they encountered and defeated 3 goblins in an archery range, salvaging a ear. With keys found on the goblins they found and released gnome acolyte Erky Timbers and 3 kobolds from imprisonment. The kobolds went back to Yusdrayl, and Erky joined the party. Thoril found five jars of oil in goblin storage room, then the party entered a columned hallway filled with blue haze. Upon touching the door to his right, Thoril found it to be covered in Ice. With Hadden's torch they defrosted it, but before Rowan could unlock the door 3 goblins came from a side room and attacked. Their bows and longsword did some damage to the party but they were able to defeat the goblins and heal Thoril's injury. 2 more ears were recovered. Movement from behind the door at the end of the hall drew their attention and Thoril opened and disabled a noise trap on the door.

On the other side the group found a chapel collapsed in rubble and filled with goblin goods. Dozens of goblin families recoiled in the corner protected by 4 goblin guards. While Erky distracted the goblins with conversation, Rowan, Hadden, and Thoril approached the guards and attacking them. With the cry of "Pineapple" Thoril threw down two vials of oil as his companions expended their dragon breath lighting the goblins on fire. 3 more goblins attacked the group from a side room. As the adventurers, Meepo, and Erky fought the goblins with all their might, the one surviving goblin ran to the northern door screaming for their leader. Durnn the Hobgoblin and his 2 lieutant hobgoblins entered the room and demanded answers.

Rowan told a tale of the entire combat being a misunderstanding, but the kobold Meepo's presence betrayed their true intentions. With a furious blow Durn rushed forward and knocked the halfling unconscious with his longsword. Fighting against a shielded liuetant, the already badly damaged paladin also succumbed to his wounds, falling unconscious. Hadden the gnome tried to revive Rowan but was prevented by a slashing blow from Durnn. With a furious cry the kobold Meepo swung his slinged rock at the hobgoblin leader, striking him in the head and impaling Durnn on his sword. In a rage a lieutenant swung down mortally wounding the kobold before being slain by the party. Erky ran to Rowan and brought the halfling back from the gates of death as Dameila plunged her sword into the one remaining hobgoblin. With little time left and Thoril on death's door, the goblin shamen Grenl emerged from the northern door and beseeched the party. Leaning down, Grenl the goblin places her hand on Thoril and with a shake of her staff his eyes flutter to life. "Now that the vicious Durnn is dead, I can return to leading our clan down the right path", "Come and speak with me, I'm sure we can reach an agreement". Grenl turns and walks through the open door.
