Mainline Tiorathan

Overview

Mainline Tiorathans (Vostir Tyrathus Tyrathus) are the primary ethnicity of the Tiorathan species and are directly descended from the early 'Ancient Tiorathans', or Transitional Humans. Moreso than other Tiorathans one can identify them as the progenitors of modern humanity, as the average Tiorathan bears features that define the many other races of mankind. They have the sturdy form of the Hyerosians, the dark hair of the Oroni and the Seofarean peoples intense eyes. Their tanned skin lays between the lighter Hyerosian and darker Seofarean tones.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The primary language spoken by Tiorathans is modern Viori, also reffered to as Tiorathan. This language is primarily seperated into the more elegant High Viori, and the still elegant but more easily written Low Viori. These languages are amongst the eldest remembered tongues, being a late Astral tongue. Due to its common structure with multiple other Astral languages Tiorathans find it easier to learn Astral tongues than others do, and as a result most Astral experts are either Tiorathan or fluent in Viori.   Tiorathans also typically speak trade tongue, Tor'Saarns most widely spoken language. This language is simple enough for them, as it is primarily descended from Viori, although it does have other influences. While base trade tongue is perfectly comprehensible to them they speak a dialect reffered to as Tiorathan trade, the eldest Tiorathan dialect and its most formal.

Culture and cultural heritage

Cultural Basics

The People of Tiorath are strong warriors and keen strategists, and maintain rich and ancient traditions that integrate the last remnants of Astral culture with a more imperialist outlook. Their architecture is grand, and makes use of advanced stone work that is seldom challenged by architects on the mainland. Tiorathan culture puts a strong emphasis on familial ties (as do most near-human and human cultures).   However Tiorathan culture is not without a darker side. To this day the Tiorathan people look down on the cultures of the east (including other more modern human cultures). Those who are born away from the Tiorathan culture or not of Astral blood are seen as lesser, and until the signing of The Gateway Pact the Tiorathans openly practiced slavery. Near-Humans and Demi-Astrals were not free from this practice, and although taboo, even humans could be legally enslaved if they fell out of favor of the Tiorath Hierarchy.

Average technological level

During the first age the Tiorathan empire had an impressive grasp on technology, only falling behind that of Felsaed, and not on all fronts. The empire made use of advanced steam engines in their industries, allowing them to mass produce quality equipment for their massive slave armies, and they could handcraft impressive aloys from which they could build themselves weapons and armors that put enchanted equipment to shame. Their guman, although few carried blast-rods equiped with basic rifling and iron sights, or the ocasional telescope sight.   After The Sundering of Tiorath and the collapse of their empire the Tiorathan Hierarchy suffered a considerable decline in their technological prowess. The majority of their steam engines were destroyed by collosal Titan Spawn or at the hands of Maroki. During the second age they are forced to humble themselves by making use of simple, manually powered machines, but they aim to regain their lost technology. In the year 496/2 they built their first new steam engine, and although it is small and weak it functions nonetheless. Decades before rumours began to spread of a battalion equipped with refurbished blast rods, and industrial records seem to indicate an uptick in production of Tiorathan Steel to quantities nearing the first age.

Art & Architecture

Tiorathan architecture is grand, from the expertly carved wood lining each town's central lodge to the collossal cathedrals of its cities. A perfect example of Tiorath's mastery over architecture can be seen in it's capital, Renic. The city is made from a deep brown stone, a form of granite that seems to possess a greater durability than any mundane stones of the continent. Some theorise the material may be laced with a small amount of Titan Iron, one of the core materials for making Tiorathan Steel.   Where most craftsmen wouldn't even attempt to work with the tough stone the Masons of Tiorath have carved from it a city, perhaps Tor'Saarns greatest. The city is carved into all sides of a mountain, six levels rising along the mountains slopes and carved directly into the mountain side. The mountain's natural peak has been completely transformed into an immense palace, so large that a giant cathedral has been built into both its flanks, one a temple dedicated to the gods, the other a memorial to the former High Lords of Tiorath.
