Digital Information Devices
Talithans use digital information devices to interact with each other and a massive database. They have more than a thousand sol cycles of information collected by Talithans and a massive archive that was brought from Earth. There are different formats of devices and different software that will change their usage.
Hardware wise, there is very little variety. Talithans reuse and recycle as much as they can, to include electronic devices. It’s a lot easier to fix, and recycle when it can’t be fixed, if everything has the same form factor and parts.
The basic physical formats come in the following forms:
Tabletop device, these are a screen set into an actual table top, but tilted up for easier viewing. They are found mostly in vocations that require large amounts of data manipulation. The larger screens make it easier. They are essentially the same thing as the hand-held devices with larger screens. Each vocation has their own specialized firmware. This allows for vocation specific capabilities and access.
Viewing Device, these are the same size as the tabletop devices, but built into a wall. They are in public areas such as libraries, the Fortresses, and museums. They allow groups of Talithans to watch videos, pull up maps, and access other information specific to the building they are in.
Vocation Pads, have the same capability as their table-top counterparts, but are mobile. They are color coded for the vocation they were programed for, so there’s no question where it belongs. They also require identity chip proximity and a passcode to access.
These, along with the identity pads, are 25cm x 18 cm
Identity Pads are individually owned tablets. They are available to everyone by right. They work with removable identity chips. An identity pad without a chip in it will have all apps turned off, except for emergency services.
Palm Device - a smaller version of the identity pad that’s easier to carry around. It serves all the same functions. They are 15cm x 7cm
Wrist device - a smart watch that one can wear so they don’t have to carry either of the devices above. It has limited functionality. It will still allow for purchases, messaging, and some basic area specific controls for Talithan buildings.
All the device cases are made with a special bioplastic that is biodegradable eventually, but will have a solid twenty sols of life, even if left in the sun. It’s also waterproof. Once the device case is set for recycling, it’s put in a special enzyme solution that is specifically made to break down the material. The electronics on the inside are also recycled. They make the circuit board out of the same bioplastic. The enzyme solution will break it down without harming the metals, which can be melted and recycled. Since the metal can no longer be used when melted together, they use it for other things.
