First Member Hannah
A History of the First Member of The Pure Dawn Collective.
The Collective was started by a woman who was known simply as Hannah with no last name. Hannah's childhood was not a happy one. Her parents had chosen to have a child, but once the child was born they seemed to change their minds. Even with much of Hannah's care being out of their hands and with the Caretakers, they still regretted their choice. When Hannah had only lived through six intervals her parents decided to give her up. Hannah had not felt particularly loved, but it was still difficult for the young child to wrap her head around not being wanted. She felt that it was somehow her fault. Hannah was allowed to stay at the School for The Young Ones that she had grown up with. She had the same Caretakers, which gave her some stability. However, her nights were lonely, though she spent them in the barracks with other children who had no parents. She had a hard time connecting with tem. Somehow their shared history did not help her. As she grew Hannah watched as other children found families to live with. She didn't connect to any of the adults who visited and hoped to give one of the young children a home. She hadn't really trusted any of them, assuming they would do as her birth parents did. Most kids hoped to find a home and would put on their best for the visiting adults. Hannah never did, instead she was always cold and stand-offish. When Hannah had aged to her ninth and a half interval she was given the choice, like all children, to choose three vocations. Hannah had decided that she cared more about the planet and it's wildlife than the people who inhabited it. She requested Vocation of Preservation, Food Craft, and the Technician Vocation. She was chosen to join the Preservationists. Very early into her vocation schooling Hannah found a deep a love for the planet Talitha Harbor. She also found love in a fellow Ecologist. Life seemed to be going well for her. She had a way to give back to the planet and someone to give her the companionship that she needed. As Hannah aged she embraced both her vocation and her partner more and more. Her fellow ecologists started to complain whenever they had to work with her. They said that she was being to tedious and to uptight about the numbers. She would argue that they were not putting in their due diligence. Her partner also started to complain that she was asking for to much. They wanted to spend time with their own hobbies or interests. Hannah found herself growing jealous of the lost time. She already had little time with them since she chose to put in long hours as a Tier I. She wanted to spend what little time she had with them. They did not put in the effort as an Ecologist that she did, so they had more free time. Hannah didn't think it was too much to ask them to be there for her more limited time off. When Hannah was old enough to qualify for her Tier II designation, she requested it and it was given. She may be difficult to work with, but her love for the field was obvious. So, she seemed like a good fit. However, the position just made her even more of a stickler for perfection. Her duties now included collecting and interpreting the large amounts of data collected by her assigned Tier I's. She needed that data to be without flaw. She also spent even more time at work, sometimes even sleeping in the barracks, though she had the house that she shared with her partner. When she was home, she was even more demanding of their time. Eventually Hannah's partner had their fill and left. The Tier I's who had to work for Hannah hated it and some of them even left the vocation all together. The other Tier II's tried to help her manage her expectations, but she was having nothing of it. As Hannah learned more and more about her job in detail, she started to feel as if the Preservationists and Ecologists were not doing enough to truly uphold the Ecology of Talitha Harbor. No matter how much they preserved their resources and recycled, they were still doing long term damage. They may not be harming the planet on the same level as the ancient Earth residents had, but they were still not doing enough. She had tried to relay her ideas to the Preservationists, but no one found her assertions practical. When she was in her early 30s Hannah decided that she had enough. She was miserable and everyone around her seemed to be miserable as well. Hannah decided that she would leave it all behind and live in a way that truly respected the Ecology of Talitha. While performing her job Hannah had visited a decent sized Island that was south of the City of Anunitum. The temperatures there were a little more mild than Anunitum and there was an abundance of plants and other life. Hannah could live among nature, respect it, and live out her days feeling much happier. She didn't care if the lack of medical care shortened her life, she was done. Hannah didn't just move to the island. She wanted her choice to be respected by the City of Anunitum and for them to leave her be. So, she requested a Call to Counsel and asked the the Island be declared a home for those who wanted to shun all city life. She would use the utmost care to respect the Ecology and would not hinder any Ecologists who visited to make sure. In fact, she would welcome them. As news of this unusual Call went out in the news forums Hannah started to gain followers. She had not given any thought to inviting others. She couldn't deny these other Talithans the chance to also live out their lives with the utmost respect for Talitha Harbor. She did, however make two demands. Two demands that she wanted the Counsel to help support. Anyone who moved to the unnamed Island had to be sterilized and children were never allowed. Once a person had graduated from the school system, they could join, but not before. Hannah had a limited amount of space and filling the island up with people would not allow her to maintain the island's Ecology. Hannah's request for the Call was respected, as it is for all Talithans. Since Hannah was a prior Tier II Ecologist and seemed very serious about not harming the place, her request was granted. She was allowed to move to the island with anyone who would also respect the location and follow the rules regarding fertility. Though she had not requested it, she would still be granted all of the basic Talithan rights. Medical Specialists would visit every few months to check on the resident's health. The initial party would also be sent with Architects so they could properly plan their shelters. The original group that moved with Hanna was small, only ten members. Hannah had put in a lot of thought and was able, with the help of the others, to come up with a food system that had very little impact on the local ecology. Seafood was in abundance which also helped. On the island, without any modern technology, her attention to detail was an asset. Those who came with her found comfort in her carefully laid out plans and were happy to follow every detail. It helped to insure their success and survival. Hannah lived a long and much happier life on the Island. She was respected and with like minded people. The first small group started calling themselves The Collective. As they grew their name eventually became The Pure Dawn Collective. Hannah lived a good 70 intervals before age finally started to catch up to her. By then she was beloved. She had never asked for special attention. But, she was still treated as a prophet of sorts. There were no forms of electronics on the Island so her words were recorded on paper so they would not be lost. Hannah complained about, but eventually gave into the need. She would not live forever and she didn't want future members of the Collective to ruin all of the work that she had put into her little society. Talitha Harbor has had more than 700 intervals around Sol since Hannah started her Collective. However, they have stayed true to her words, carefully copying them as the books age. Even though their numbers have grown some, they have not had any serious impact on the island's ecology. Something that is, still, monitored closely by the City Ecologists twice a year.
Children
Reading my way through this characters life was quite a ride: A rejected child turned socially estranged worcaholic turned leader of an ecologist commune that inspired others til way after her death. While the first half of her biography reads depressing, the latter half takes an unexpected turn to the opposite and also comes unexpected. Yet there is no disconnect between these stages in her life and it seems well rounded. The article is a bit long, but no space is wasted for unimportant stuff and everything you read has its purpose. At times you need a bit more information about the workings of the world, which surely are in other articles. It's good that that wasn't all built in here - linking to these parts will help jump right to that info and get onself updated about the workings and technicalities. :)

Thank you for the review and input. I was just pumping it out for World Ember, but going through and adding links (and probably some editing) is a good idea.
