Description

Akankas are enormous spider-like beasts. Their many sets of eyes glimmer with magic and match the multicolor hues of the haphazard crystalline growths jutting along their bodies. Their gem-encrusted skin is not only a near-impenetrable defense, but it is also the source of their powerful illusory powers. Additionally, their whip-thin legs are deceptively strong, capable of parrying steel weapons and suffocating all but the largest humanoids.

Behavior

These ambush hunters prefer to make their nests in damp caves, especially those containing rare mineral deposits, like echothyst. The akanka will use convincing illusions, such as the crackling of fire or the cries of a wounded traveler, to lure prey farther into its lair.
When endangered, they will attempt to pick off the weakest prey. If they are unable to escape, these intelligent creatures will weave specific illusions to taunt or frighten its attackers.

Powers

Akankas can create potent auditory and visual illusions, akin to a major image. Additionally, they can accurately mimic speech in a multitude of voices and languages.

Usage

Although the beast's sturdy hide is useful in its own right, the akanka's parts brim with magic. Its fangs and mandibles can be used to fashion magic items that allow the user to cast web, spiderclimb, or to speak with spider-like creatures.
