Battle of High Hill

The Battle of High Hill was a suprise attack on the citizen volunteers of Vogler by the Ironclad Regiment during the Kingfisher festival.

Background

Every year during the Kingfisher festival, a reenactment of the ancient Battle of High Hill is reenacted by the citizens of Vogler. Originally, the battle saw a squadron of Knights of Solamnia fend off High Hill from hordes of Estwildian barbarians. This astounding defense against the odds led to the thriving economy of Vogler, and is attributed to Vogler's existence to this day. During this specific reenactment, the town of Vogler hired the Ironclad Regiment, a mercenary company under the command of Ridomir "Cudgel" Ironsmile to play the Estwildian horde while volunteers from the town of Vogler played the heroic Knights of Solamnia. Unbeknownst to the Ironclad Regiment's commander, the half-ogre second-in-command Gragonis had been paid off by an envoy of the Red Dragon Army to replace their sparring weapons with real ones, and to turn the reenactment to an actual battle.

The Battle

As the forces on either side lay in silence, waiting for Mayor Thorne to officially commence the reenactment, soon-to-be Greenshield commander Fëandil noticed that the Ironclad Regiment's weapons were not dull, and their sharpness reflected in the sunlight. Before he was able to warn anyone, Mayor Thorne commenced the battle, and the slaughter ensued.
At the first charge of the Ironclad Regiment, many lines broke across the volunteer citizens hastily-made defense. This charge was the bloodiest, taking dozens of civilian lives as the Ironclad Regiment cleaved through the unarmed civilians on their path of destruction. Immediately reeling from the losses, Becklin Uth Viharin reorganized the civilians into a somewhat-managable defense, while stragglers and deserters were executed while running away. Immediately, Darret Highwater took heroic action and jumped into the fray in the defense of the people of Vogler, giving dozens of citizens time to escape from the Ironclad Regiment.
Outside of the main fray of battle, Dimitri Borislav commanded a small unit consisting of future Greenshield Regiment soldiers in a hasty defense against a calvary charge from the Ironclad Regiment and its commander, Gragonis. After surviving constant arrow-fire from nearby archers and the impending threat of a calvary squadron, Dimitri and company forced the offensive back onto the Ironclad Regiment, dispatching of the calvary regiment and arrow squadron whilst continuing to bring the fight to Gragonis. The fight continued, and Gragonis quickly overpowered the new adventurers forcing them into a dire situation. However, do to the heroic actions of Darret Highwater, the adventurers were able to defeat Gragonis and repel the Ironclad Regiment from the town of Vogler.

Aftermath

After the battle, the surviving townsfolk of Vogler retreated back into the town to tend to the wounded. Under guidance of the new adventurers, a triage was set up to tend to the wounded and killed. With the impending threat of the Red Dragon Army, the adventurers opted to evacuate the city towards an uncertain future in the City of Kalaman, cementing their importance to both the people of Vogler and the creation of the official Greenshield Regiment.
