The Cult of Rakdos
Founded by their Parun and namesake Rakdos, an ancient devil, the cult attends to the entertainment and services industry, which includes some cultural activities such as circus performances, theater reenactments, and charity services, as well as more service oriented ones, such as ore-mining, catering, and owning or working in storefronts, venues, and comedy clubs. Members of this unionized guild are referred to as cultists, no matter how little they actually worship their figurehead.
Like utilitarians, the Cult of Rakdos are a guild that places a premium on the betterment of the civilization of Ravnica, while also stressing the important of family values and "fun". Due to their optomistic nature towards their Parun and hard working hours, the public of Ravnica often associate the Rakdos guild as a "Cult", and with their Parun an actual devil, it has proven hard to overcome the stereotype in the public eye[1].
As laid out in the Guildpact, the guild was intended to fill roles concerning entertainment, mining, and manual labor.
The cult has a wide variety of performers that fill the odd niches Ravnican culture has created for entertainment; spikewheel acrobats, lampooners, fire jugglers, puppeteers, pain artists, noise musicians, dark clowns, and hellbent riders form the heart of the cult's bizarre diversions, putting on shows in guild-owned speakeasies and on portable stages in the streets. Other Rakdos performers are spell casters of spectacular sort, using expressive, free-wheeling, and dangerous magic.
The cult's disposition towards the enjoyment of Ravnican culture, and willingness to risk their lives in its pursuit, is an acceptance of death's inevitability and an embrace of the precious gift of life they have been given - as well as a reminder to others that life is both fleeting and precious, and thus should be treated as the gift that it is, no matter how harsh or short it may be.
Inside the Rakdos Guild, organized crime has made itself popular due to the exploitation of Union rules and regulations and their enforcement, leading to standing mafia invovlement in general services of the city. While these invovlements are widely known, the Guildpact prevents other guilds from overstepping into the guild's business, not to mention that most benefit from the organized crime families involvment in specific affairs.
While mafia invovlement is rising, the conditions for workers in Ravnica has also improved significantly as a result[2].Many families enjoy extended benefits, and workers are paid fair wages and treated fairly after the crime families took over the enforcement of Union rulings.
