Argus the Vigilant

Lord of Envy, ruler of the City of the Covetous.

"you could have answers to these questions if you were willing to deal with an annoying dickhead in a tophat"
Argus the Vigilant is the prince overseer of the first layer of the Nine Hells, the City of the Covetous and the punisher of the sin of Envy. His seat of power, the Spire of Watchful Eyes, is a massive control tower in the center of the bustling city over which he presides. Like most archdevils, he is the incarnation of the sin he is supposed to be cycling out of souls, and Argus's bad personality means that he is mostly concerned with expanding his influence outward, not in. However, many warlocks are in his service because he makes it his business to spy on nearly every living being with any sort of power.   The Lord of Envy's appearance can vary, like all devils, but his preferred visage is that of a six eyed tiefling with grey skin, dark wild hair, and a trim goatee. Argus's eyes are of all different colors and sizes, and he changes them sometimes multiple times a day from his vast stolen repertoire-- from beholders to rocs to humanoids, he has amassed a collection of eyes through violence and deception that rivals a dragon's hoard. These eyes can manifest at will at any place on his body, or even on the bodies of those contracted with him. His wardrobe is expensive and flashy in the tame way that men's fashion can be.    The City of the Covetous is known for being a hub of extraplanar activity; a slightly less dangerous rival of Mephistopheles's City of Thieves. All glitter and illusion, the City is populated by the paranoid, vicious souls of the overly envious-- those who, in life, pushed the ordinary emotion of jealousy to its violent limits. Souls rarely leave the City; it has been long speculated that this is a major point of contention between Asmodeus and Argus, although this grudge has yet to surface into action.
