Lady-in-Waiting

Qualifications

The previous Lady-in-Waiting must present her selection for her replacement within a week of accepting the title. There is no other requirement besides the will of the previous Lady and any level of membership to the Silent Priesthood.

Requirements

The Lady-in-Waiting must be a member of the Raven Queen's clergy in some capacity, regardless of whether the Silent Priesthood has bestowed any official rank. For example, a wandering priest who communed with the Raven Queen and accepted her power is still eligible to be Lady-in-Waiting even if they never set foot in the Silent Monastery before.

Appointment

There is a brief ascension ritual performed upon the leaving of the previous Lady on her final pilgrimage. However, one does not truly become the Lady until the previous bearer of the title dies.

Duties

The Lady-in-Waiting is the highest level cleric of the Priesthood and has to lead the organization, as well as deliver messages from the goddess herself to the clergy if necessary. Often the byzantine structure of the Priesthood means that the Lady delegates much of her bureaucratic duties to others.

Benefits

The Lady-in-Waiting has the ability to wield considerable political power in the Priesthood, as well as exert her influence upon the lay organizations around her. However, many do not interact with the world outside the Priesthood at all unless necessary.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The formal uniform of the Lady-in-Waiting is full body black veiling, leaving only the hands exposed and ears if an individual has longer ears. The Lady must be in uniform at all time while interfacing with the public as the Lady, although many have been known to sneak off on plain clothes.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Lady-in-Waiting can only be released from this duty by death.
