Neren's Teachings
Neren's Teachings is the most authoritative religious text in Orromy. It forms the foundation for the religion, and it contains a guide for how people are to live in order to attain theosis. It was written by the prophet Neren with divine guidance. Many translations exist as the original was written in an old Veronan language. In Verona, the document is often read alongside other contemporary texts written by Neren's followers as well as abiding by unwritten doctrine. However, in Astoria, there is the belief that only Neren's Teachings should be followed and that it is more important that everyone has access and the ability to read the book for themselves.
It is divided into various books, chapters, and verses each of varying lengths. It recounts historical events, events during Neren's life, and predictions of the future. It was originally written on vellum, though most modern translations are written on paper. Culturally, the book was used to teach people how to read and write. In Verona, memorizing the document is seen as a great achievement, and some avid students go to specialized schools simply to learn how to memorize Neren's Teachings.
Throughout the year, there are set verses to be read, though in Samoir, it is up to the priest to decide which verses to read. Typically, three verses are read each day, and it is possible to read through the whole book in a year. However, differing interpretations of the text have resulted in a few wars and schisms.
The majority of families own a copy, and most churches are willing to distribute them to poorer members for free. Due to attempts to bring Neren's Teachings to nonbelievers, it is often one of the first books translated into foreign languages and thus a record of some dead languages.
