Crimson Guard
The Crimson Guard are a highly trained and elite force of seven knights that is responsible for the protection of the Emperor and the imperial family. These knights are some of the best and most experienced warriors in the Empire, and have been chosen for their skill, courage, and loyalty to the Emperor. These knights are sworn to serve and protect the Emperor, and are willing to lay down their lives for their leader. They swear the most holy of vows to fulfill their sacred duty, and - in theory - are meant to be the living exemplars of the pinnacle of knightly virtues, members of the Crimson Guard are sworn for life and are forbidden from owning land, taking wives, or fathering children.
The Crimson Guard wear signature crimson colored cloaks, and silver armor with red enameling. On the back of each cloak is adorned a large silver sword embroidered into the fabric. For this reason they are sometimes colloquially called the "Crimson Cloaks", or the "Crimson Swords".
The Crimson Guard is led by the Lord Commander, currently Aric Thundost, The Lord Commander appears to have no marks on his armor to distinguish him from other members. Under normal circumstances, the Lord Commander sits on the small council as the Emperor's advisor in military matters.
Leaving the Crimson Guard is punishable by death, as the oath is for life and leaving that oath is prohibited.
