Session Report #7 Call of the Far Shores
General Summary
Our party found themselves deep in the Shrine of the Darkin. Ufa had just guided the party into a large room where four Grave Guardians, ancient and powerful Yokudan constructs, had awoken upon them entering the chamber. A melee would ensure amongst the party, and it wouldn’t take long for them to dispatch the automatons.
Further into the shrine, they came into a dilapidated library. The library had scours of moldy and forgotten tomes scattered throughout the library. In the corner was a small nook with a beautiful bow carved in the shape of a Cobra. Steve remembered a story about an old Yokudan God, known as Satakal the Worldskin. Satakal is known as both the destroyer of worlds and the bringer of new life. In the old Ra Gada stories, all of the worlds are embedded in his massive scales. Satakal is known to go through cycles, eating itself from the tail and slowly destroying the known worlds. Once the worlds have been devoured, it sheds its skin and the worlds start anew. Some spirits would learn how to evade Satakal’s hunger, and these spirits would go on to become the Yokudan gods. Satakal is sometimes said to be almost synonomous with Alduin, the world eater as a harbinger of both destruction and rebirth. This artifact, the Bow of the Cobra, or Ouroboros as it is known in some circles, was said to be crafted from a single fang of Satakal and holds a deep connection with the Worldskin.
Also inside the library was a fairly stocked Alchemy table that held components such as Fire Salts, Void Salts, a Giants Toe and a Common Soul Gem. Inside the library itself, there was a few books, one call the Red Dervishes of Rihad, a story book that can be read once a year to provide the reader with proficiency in both short and long blades as well as +1 in acrobatics. There was also a spell tome for the Spell Bound Weapon and finally a small piece of parchment with the last rites scribbled on top.
After exploring the library thoroughly, the party pressed onward until they came to the next chamber. There was a great open hall and in the centre, a massive construct lay dormant. The construct was identified by Ufa to be a Mournful Aegis, one of the most power constructs ever created by the Darkin to guard his shrine. The Aegis was a formidable foe, and almost slayed both Jonus and Cleetus. It was the quick thinking of Steve that identified the power gem in the centre of the creature. Some unsuccessful attempts to dislodge the gem were followed by Cleetus, with only his relentless endurance to keep him standing, was able to grab a hold of the gem and deactivate the Mournful Aegis.
The party would tend to their wounded before pressing onwards, collecting the power gem after Steve successfully deduced that this was the key to the room near the beginning of the shrine. The party would continue on to the Font of Eternity and Cleetus spoke the Last Rites over Ufa’s body and washed his bones in the Font. After laying Ufa to rest in one of the empty coffins Ufa would fullfil his end of the bargain as he began to pass on to the Far Shores. Ufa explained that the Darkin Spectres hide underneath a tavern in the Outskirts called the Sandy Skeever. He also said that the Spectres number in the dozens so to make sure to go with backup. Finally, he told the party that the Imperial that is influencing the Darkin Spectres to become involved in political games between Kings, was currently a guest in the court of Prince Phastos of the Crowns. Ufa also asked that Cleetus return his signet ring to his family in Sentinel to let them know he had passed on and been put to rest.
Cleetus remembered that Prince Phastos’ holdings were in the city of Old Hegathe. His father, King Thassad V was an influential Crown King who fought on the side of Uriel and Potema Septim in the War of the Red Diamond. When they were defeated by Cephorus Septim, the then King of Gilane (A kingdom in Hammerfell) by way of marriage to the Queen, King Thassad and his son Phastos were exiled to Old Hegathe and their title was demoted to Prince as punishment for choosing the wrong side. Prince Phastos has just taken up the throne as Prince of Hegathe quite recently.
Wrapping their heads around the information, the party completed exploring the Shrine and unlocked the room where a large treasure chest lay. Inside the chest was a large pile of gold and gems and a fine suit of Light Redguard armor.
The party would spend the evening outside the shrine, resting and recuperating. Steve would return to the Shrine to contemplate on his faith, only to be followed by Peeeeen-Ja. Both Steve and Peeeeen-Ja would remain in the Shrine for sometime before emerging together, claiming that they both did what had to be done. The party would then spend the day travelling through the desert, with the day going by rather uneventfully. The party would end their journey back at the oasis where the corpse of the Remmorhaz had been picked clean by scavengers, leaving only its exoskeleton. Havem would spend some time harvesting the Chitin for future use. The session would end with the party taking the night to relax and prepare for their return to Sentinel the following day.
