Selivar sailed for the Dragon Mouth on 19 November 2973 and arrived at the Port City of Ryu on 25 May 2974.[12] Selivar and his ship "The Basilisk" spent the rest of the year cruising off the coast and escorting merchantmen. With the outbreak of the First Vega-Ryunlian War, the Penthan fleet operated in support of the Rodriges Hortalez Company and in early 2975 The Basilisk was dispatched to carry a cargo of the company's money to Stoneport. On 19 February, two Warships from the city of Chun Li attacked, which drove them off after a brief exchange of fire. This was Selivar's first experience of battle. The rest of the year he spent escorting convoys, during which he continued to develop his navigation and ship handling skills. In early 2976 Nelson contracted Golar's Fever and became seriously ill. He was discharged from The Basilisk on 14 March and returned to Penthos aboard The Dolphin. Selivar spent the six-month voyage recuperating and had almost recovered by the time he arrived in Penthos in September 2976. His patron, High Lord Bellaron, had risen to the post of Comptroller of the Navy in 2975, and used his influence to help Selivar gain further promotion.Selivar was appointed acting lieutenant aboard The Hupperat, which was about to sail to The Points.
