Races of Tara
The different races of Tara. Insect and fungal-organism races are not included.
Humans - Humans are one of the most common races within Tara. They tend to be adaptabtible, widely varied, and industrious. They can have any number of characteristics. Human's short-sightedness, arrogance, and tendency for destruction has often earned them distrust and contempt throughout history. However, their curiosity and perseverence has also earned them respect. They are one of the most powerful and prevalent races. There are few places in the universe where a human cannot be found.
Elves - Elves are 2nd most numerous race of Tara, and have a variety of different ethnicities - for example, Mermaids. Elves are known to typically be elegant, wise, and intelligent. They are very long-lived compared to humans, and thus generally survey the larger scale, big-picture aspects of things, resulting in many disagreements with the more short-sighted humans.
Atia - Atia are human-like in appearance and characteristics, except for one very notable difference - their wings and ability to fly. Atia are physically stronger than humans and slightly longer-lived. They are highly sought after as warriors and soldiers. There are some Atia cities, but they also most commonly inhabit Human and Elf settlements.
Vashorn - The Vashorn are a horned, tall race typically very dark in appearance, cloaked in shadows. They are said to have descended from Elves or Humans who were corrupted and fell to The Devouring via Black Magic, though studies show that they are actually their own seperate race. Their natural affinity for Dark Magic and ominous appearance has resulted in the Vashorn long being seen as evil and dangerous.
Imps - Imps, or Goblins, are a small race with many differing ethnicities. They are known to be more animalistic or "barbaric" in nature to most other races. While their various types vary widely, they are typically about four feet tall, capricious, cunning only when they feel like it, joyful, and hardy. They have tough, gnarled skin that is very thick and difficult to pierce.
Naiads - Naiads are a magical race that take physical characteristics from nature. For example, they may grow leaves in their hair, or have skin made partially of tree bark. Naiads also commonly have hair colors that are not natural to any other race, like blue or purple. Aside from these distinctive differences, they are human or elf-like in appearance. They have a strong connection to nature, and rarely live in or visit cities. They take on mental characteristics and experiences from their environment, and older Naiads eventually come to represent their location in person - becoming a "spirit" of a forest, or river. The most commonly known type of Naiad is a Dryad, whose essence is tied to trees and forests. The existence of Naids is what gave shape to Earth Worship religions.
Vampires - Vampires are a predatory, immortal race long associated with dark elegance, violence, and reclusiveness. They can only procreate by turning an existing person into a vampire - a complex process with a low survival rate. Vampires are almost always former humans or elves. They survive on a diet of blood, though not always human.
