Knotwork magics are a visual magic etched into almost anything. They are used as a means of added protection or even strength! The power of the knotwork is entirely dependent on it's complexity (see below).

If the knotwork is engraved on armor, shields, or even clothing, it raises one's AC by the bonus granted by the knotwork complexity. If the knotwork is ingraved on any weapons, you get a bonus to hit determined by the complexity. Knotwork of matching varieties do not stack with each other.
It should also be noted, that while anyone can design, engrave, or embroider knotwork, it only has any real staying power by someone who has mastered the craft. As a result, each settlement across Gaelynn has a group of people called Knot Weavers, who constantly study, practice, weave, and refine their work. If a knot is not done by a Knot Weaver, it fades after 1d8 weeks.
