The Night Sky

Tracking the passage of time

Many of the celestial bodies in the night sky are often used to track the passage of time, hinting at the clockwork nature of the cosmology as a whole. The world of Tarana exists in a geo-centric system. Where the sun orbits the world, rising in the east and setting in the west. The moon, Emania, precedes the sun every day. In terms of time keeping, the Sun tracks the passage of the day while the moon tracks the passage of the month.   The procession of the Silver Wheel and it's twelve Constellations tracks the passage of the seasons and thus the year.   Behind the silver wheel, there are four wandering stars, each a different color, which track other measurements of time.   Arda, which appears gold colored in the night sky, tracks the passage of the lustre, a five year period.   Albren, which appears vibrant blue, tracks the cycle, a 30 year period   Shannal appears a deep, verdant green and it's procession through the sky measures out the span of a druidic era which spans 630 years.   Lastly is Yewanna, which appears a deep ominous red. This star was only discovered in recent years and is suspected to track the progress of the Grand Epoch, which spans a total of nineteen eras or 11,970 years. This is the only one of the wandering stars not visible by the naked eye

Stars and Magic

It is well documented that half of all magic in the world flows from the stars above just as easily as it flows from the ground below. It is also known that the magic from above changes "flavor" based on which stars are highest in the sky. The Silver Wheel keeps the heavens in rotation, controlling the precession of the stars. The Wheel is separated into twelve segments or "spokes", each indicating a star sign, which has an effect on those born under it.
