L'Arte della Pasticceria
Edits & such will occur after Summer Camp Ceremony on August 26th
Hello and welcome to this year's L'arte della pasticceria! Art speaks to the soul, food speaks to the stomach, and pastries speak to both! I'm your hostess with the mostest, Ariza! Beside me is the judge for this baking competition: the baking champion of the first ever L'arte della pasticceria and my dearest heart, Loneli! In today's competition we're welcoming the beginner's heat. In this competition, we have a no magic and no familiars rule! Each competitor is allowed one piece of paper with instruction.
History
L'arte della pasticceria has been inspiring Croceans and visitors alike for as long as pastries have existed in the port-city.
The baking competition, however, has only existed for about twenty years. The first competition began as a way to take down the monopolizing pastry giant, Prue Berrywood.
As the primary baker for Croceans, Prue Berrywood stomped out all competition in La Chiave a Croce. Furious, Ariza told Prue that Loneli would bake circles around her, given the chance.
Pride stoked Prue's ego and a deal was struck. If Loneli could out-bake Prue in three heats, Ariza and Loneli could open up Priscilla's Potent Pastries and other bakers in town could open their shops as well. If she failed, Loneli would have to give Prue the recipe of her choosing.
The three heats were as follows: no familiar nor magic, familiar but no magic, and best pastry.
Components and tools
The most common ingredients are those found in the La Chiave a Croce: flours, honeys, herbs, spices, dairy, proteins, etc.
However, bakers are allowed to bring their own ingredients from home. Sometimes, these ingredients can make or break a dish. But every year, more ingredients are brought into the competition.
Sometimes, spice artisans will send bakers to the competition so Loneli and Ariza will try their lastest spices in hopes of inspiring the next pastry hit.
Participants
Bakers participate in the competition.
One or two entertainers host the competition to keep the onlookers engaged and the bakers' spirits up.
One to three judges taste the dishes and determine the winner.
Several sponsors bring beverages to keep the bakers hydrated and entertainment to delight the onlookers during the lulls in competition.
Important Locations
Loneli and I own and operate Priscilla's Potent Pastries. After today, one of you will have the opportunity to join Loneli in the kitchen for one-on-one apprenticeship lessons to see if baking is part of your future!
Yes! I am here for pastries! I can smell the butter and sugar now!
