Appearance

Porcelain Spiderlings can have a variety of shapes and patterns. Some common spider types include the peacock spider, blue tarantula, gnathopalystes, brazilian jewel tarantula, orchid spider, and mirror spiders. While white porcelain is the most common foundation for Spiderlings, gnathopalystes inspired Spiderlings tend to have a transulscent teal body.

Sentience

Most porcelain brooches are insentient; however, during the last magic surge, some brooches were imbued with life. Sentient Spiderling brooches are able to move when encased in complete darkness. Sentient Spiderlings keep to themselves until they find a comfortable home. 
When a Spiderling finds a host they are particularly fond of, they may choose to reach out telepathically. If the bond is accepted, they become bound to keep and protect each other's secrets. When a person finds themselves the companion of a Sentient Spiderling, they become a vessel of knowledge. Any question that passes through their mind may receive any answer from their Spiderling.

History

Era A

Porcelain Spiderlings were a signifier of wealth. In most regions of the Claw Continent, the ability to produce ceramics was minimal and long distance trade was dangerous, so the ability to acquire Porcelain Spiderlings was limited to region and wealth.

Era B

Porcelain Spiderlings were still a signifier of wealth. While creatures acquired new abilities and items acquired power, some Spiderlings acquired sentience. During this period of time, Spiderlings became both highly desirable and taboo. In this period of fear and anxiety, the new enticed and terrorized the continent.

Era Today

Porcelain Spiderlings are interesting and considered desirable.
