World Primer - CoW2

Welcome to Tarantellia!

Let's weave a story...

Introduction

Over the following months, you will be exploring the world of Tarantellia. Beware, for here there are monstrosities, unlike anything you’ve faced before. The creepy crawlies of your day to day life - bigger than you could possibly know. The evils - more sinister. Each of you is seeking the port city of La Chiave a Croce. Some seek truth and reason, others seek fame and glory. But all seek adventure. Welcome to Tarantellia.   On this journey, you're contacted to protect an alchemists' caravan. The owners request a brief rest to stretch and share a meal. Sitting down, you take stock of the meat shields members of your party.   What do they see when the look at you?
What have they learned about you on this three day journey so far?

Character Motivation: Why this Campaign?

Your reasons and motivation are your own but artifact acquisition must play a component.

What is Artifact Acquisition in Tarantellia?

A magic eruption devastated the Claw Continent 100 years ago. As the pressurized magic escaped the confines of the earth, much was destroyed but everything changed.   Summary of the Massive Changes:
  • lives lost
  • homes destroyed
  • weather patterns changed
  • excessive growth and mutation to flora and fauna
  • creation of artifacts
  • These artifacts, when left to their own devices, can cause further explosions and devastation to the surrounding environment. You will not be hunting for cultural artifacts but rather dangerous and magically created artifacts that can destroy the world if not neutralized or siphoned.   There are people and organizations who are searching for these artifacts with the intention to protect Tarantellia. While there are those who are seeking power.   Artifacts with magic boosting abilities and other unknown properties are scattered throughout the Claw Continent. Some artifacts are small petrified pieces of wood or pebbles, while others are giant boulders. A few of the smaller boulders have been transported to nearby communities and sculpted into statues of deities or local legends.   This extreme overflow of magic infused into nature and caused excessive growth of flora and mutation of fauna, particularly in regions with low magic usage.   As such, the recovery of the artifacts will rely on a multitude of abilities which will vary depending on your DM's ttrpg of choice.

Major Artifact Organizations in the Northern Claw Continent

There are many organizations that focus on artifact acquisition but the most recognizable organizations are the Den of Papyrus and the Weaver's Guild.
    Den of Papyrus
    Weaver's Guild

This global phenomenon created an era of extreme chaos that is finally finding recovery. Will your party form a team of independent adventures, work for hire, or join a pre-existing organization?

    Campaign Details

Your party will be starting on the Claw Continent. There is enough content that you could remain there for a full campaign, if that's what you choose. Here, a full campaign means until you're leveled up to a satisfied time and your character seeks peace... or dies. 0:) In all seriousness, you could stay on the Claw Continent and reach level 20. It's not required but there is a lot to explore.

    Religion

Tarantellia is a world believed by most tarants to be created by the goddess, Malmi , and her fellow godlike being, Basi . The semantics of the creation story vary by culture and location. Many believe a spider goddess wove the world into existence and a necromancer's magic brought her designs to life. Unfortunately, that is where most of the resemblance stops. The relationship between the almighty beings ranges from fierce enemies to lovers. Some believe they were kin and a handful doesn't believe in the existence of either being. There are those who follow one and believe the other to be a myth. Most of the fae don't care one way or another, preferring instead to worship chaos.   Major themes include: 1) weaving stories, 2) death and life, 3) religion, 4) humanity vs nature, 8) technology vs magic
