Bel

The Warmaster of Hell

When the Princes rose up and forced the Devilish royalty out of Hell, it was Bel who marshaled the armies that defeated Lucifer. A master strategist, Bel was able to outmaneuver the armies of the Morningstar multiple times in the revolution. Unlike many of the Princes, Bel was not a high ranking devil prior to the war. Instead, he reached his position through sheer talent, and when the war ended he was granted Avernus, which was considered by the other Princes to be the least desirable district. Bel, however, took the district and treated it like a new platoon of fresh recruits, weeding out weakness and beating strength into his dominion.

An Honorable Devil

Bel embodies the lawful evil nature of Devils to a fault. He despises any deal or agreement that is not codified in a contract, and is often mocked by the other Princes for not including the normal loopholes and fine text that Devils often use to insert hidden clauses into their agreements with mortals. Indeed, those who make a deal with Bel are often surprised to find the agreement entirely as it seems, without subtext or hidden motives.   Bel, for his part, disdains Devils who attempt to weasel their way out of pacts. He has spent much of his time leading excursions into the Abyss, and has seen first hand the dangerous results of allowing Chaos too much freedom in a world. He views the use of Shadow Runners to perform off contract jobs to be the biggest danger to the Nine Districts of Hell since Lucifer was dethroned, and he has used his Soulcorp to hunt down these mortals and give them a punishment suitable for their transgression.
If you want my help mortal, you sign on the dotted line. Otherwise, my sword will sever your soul from your body, and I will give it a greater purpose.
