Fairhaven
Fairhaven stands defiantly against all who would threaten Aundair and its people. It is the cultural and political heart of Aundair, as well as a nexus of commerce, entertainment, travel, education, and adventure. Fairhaven is accessible through lightning rails from Arcanix, Hupperdook, and Passage, its heavily patrolled gates, and by airship. The denizens of the city are generally well protected from outside attackers and sieges.
Rule with an Arcane Fist
At the beginning of the war that ended the Wynarn Empire, the royal family was the first to die. However, their youngest daughter Aurala was beloved by the people of the empire for her kind heart and humanitarian efforts and was allowed to live. When the fighting broke out, Aurala rose back to power and formed the nation of Aundair and used her natural arcane talents to rule the people and command her armies. When the dust settled her country still stood and she has ruled as queen since. She established the Zharena System, in which she appoints a leader to each city of Aundair. These zharenas are to enforce national law and report directly back to Queen ir'Wynarn but are left to structure their cities and townships as they see fit. This allows for a diverse range of local governments and a satisfied population. Each town has a generic city guard and an econospeaker as well as a small portion of the Aundair army. Most soldiers are trained to use some magical power, the most powerful of which become candidates for The Knights Arcane. The Knights Arcane are an elite force of eldritch knights and echo knights that complete more difficult and covert missions in the name of Aundair and the Queen.Wards of Fairhaven
Fairhaven sits on the dividing line between Shreth Flats and the Prachur Fields. Its walls are elliptical with Castle Aundair and Skyreach Tower as the focal points. Farmland to the south and east sides of the city is dotted with farmsteads and small rural communities that provide food for the capital. Within the walls of the city are five significant wards, each separated by magically reinforced walls. The Slushbottom Ward sits in the eastern part of the city. The cobblestone streets of the city were never quite built up to the walls in this ward, causing this area to be rife with mud and muck year-round, leaving the denizens cold, ornery, and prone to illness. Many of the sick and diseased are relegated to the Slushbottom to be forgotten. However, some healers have come to their aid, as well as some priests who wish to remedy the unjust conditions of the poor, becoming local heroes for their selfless work. In an eastern region of the Ignition Ward, at the eastern focal point of the elliptical city is Skyreach Tower, Fairhaven's skyport. Travelers from all over Noyatu and distant lands are carried in the large skyships made by House Lyrander. A large arcane elevator lifts passengers and cargo to the top of the tall tower. The large circular platform at the peak of Skyreach Tower has enough space to dock 12 skyships. Popular destinations for departing Fairhaven flights are Sharn, Ravnica, and Port Nyanzaru. Skyreach Tower is also equipped for long-distance trips like those frequented over the Thunder Ocean to the continent of Oprynkyst. In the center of the city, between Castle Aundair and Skyreach Tower is Ignition Ward, housing the working class folk of the city. It is here that most of the city's general commerce takes place. Dozens of smaller streets branch off of major roads to create a labyrinth of twisting neighborhoods and industrial districts. The Lavander Voisinage plaza lies at the southwestern end of the Ignition Ward, where the more expensive homes and luxurious entertainment can be found, as well as the central temple to Bahamut, call the Platinum Judgement. Allumage Station sits at the northern end of the ward and is Fairhaven's lightning rail station. The grounds of the University of Wynarn sit in the center of the Ignition Ward as well. Hugging the western wall of Fairhaven, the Shimmer Ward is where the nobles and magic practitioners of the city dwell. Here, beautiful gardens and museums celebrate Aundairian culture, and specialist merchants promote their unique wares. The debate forum is rarely used aside from holidays, where intellectuals will challenge each other to arguments about philosophy and history. Cottages and tasteful estates sit behind tall fences and walls, and a pair of open squares host occasional galas when the local elite need socialization. Standing vigilant and awe-inspiring in the western focal point of Fairhaven is Castle Aundair. The light stone of the castle is accented with deep purple gems and gold trimmings. The main structure splits into numerous towers, while high-arched stained glass windows dress the exterior of each floor of the citadel. Within the bright halls of the castle, lit by purple torchlight, the queen rules with her family and councilors at her beck and call.Population: 178,400 (67% humans, 15% elves, 5% dwarves, 4% gnomes, 9% other races)
