Chief of Medicine

This is a rank tied to, as one might expect, running a medical instiution, and requires a heavy education, and a high understanding of logisitics. A chief of medicine has many responsibilities, including but not limited too;

  • Organizing logisitics of medicine and supplies

  • Balancing the budget

  • Hiring and firing

  • Contract negotiations

  • Supplier-Consumer relations

  • Safety and Protocols

  • Employee Discipline

  • Operational Standards

And much much more. These people are exceedingly well paid, generally making anywhere from 2-5 gold crowns a week, flat and that does not include their cut for any actual medicine they still practice that is just the administrative wage they get to take from the institutions profits every week.

Generally to acquire this rank, one must have practiced in the appropriate medical field for at least five years, and generally be well connected within your local Physicians Guild. The exception, however, is Asylums. Many mental institutions have people appointed chief of medicine by basically purchasing the title. Most are at least some sort of doktor if nothing else, but the Physicians Guild does not....police mental institutions nearly as heavily as other medical facilities. Because well...it is generally assumed such patients will not get better. They get less budget from their local guild office, they get less funding, less attention paid, less help. But they also have less oversight, and less care paid to them. A perfect place for a lazy doktor whom wishes to have a cushy 'do very little actual work' job where no one is really going to question most anything you do. A select few aren't even run by doktors, but subbed out to wealthy nobles whom basically run it as a business, which as one may imagine, leads to a great many...ethical questions.
