Lakvyer Connighclan Estate

These lands are ceded in trust to the Chief of Clan Holvani, whom owes their fealty to Clan Ironcliffe. This person has the sacred trust of governing well and proper, the towns, villages and peoples within this land. To insure they've the necessary protection, to enforce law and order, and to collect taxes, and insure productivity of the region.

These lands are the estate given in trust to Clan Holvani, perhaps Clan Ironcliffe's staunchest allies. Indeed, Morgrym's Ironcliffe's own sons married the current chief's sisters. The current chief is one Barchas Toragmac Holvani, whom whilst not truly a Fiolag, holds a voice as Chief, for he politely refuses these newer gat (read Human) sort of noble 'titles' and prefers to go by the old and traditional dwarven titles. This is a choice accepted and respected, and seen as equal to a Fiolag or Baron. He is respectful enough of course to refer to his fellows by their preferred moniker/title. The lands under his guardianship run from just north of where the Nordjeim Spines begin, and southward to the coast of the Glacial Sea, and her sovereign waters run out nearly sixty kilometers. East to west, it follows the coastline and the Nordjeim, branching a little along the Skull River, more to establish fortified positions in case of raiding monsters from the Battered Skull Highlands, and along the River Oir for much of the same reason in regards to the Nordjeim Spines, after a non existent gold rush was started which gave the river its name. Odd for dwarves, Clan Holvani are excellent river and lake sailors, though they cannot say for certain, generally, how well that would translate out to sea. As such, despite the modernizing that includes the rail yard in Lakvyer, river and lake travel is still a staple of how goods and people move about the land, as are the roads. Much like the Riveach Baruntacht, these are lands of plenty in many ways, for those wise enough to know how to tap them. Fishing, kelp and other riverbank/lake shore plants, other river and lake resources, along with wild game is plentiful enough. Besides this, the real economic driver of course is the land itself, which is basically a centered inland shipping route, between the main rail lines and Iron Wheel Way running through Lakvyer, along with being on the coast of the Glacial Sea and right on the Nordjeim where it drains out from the Glacial Sea. Shipping of goods and people is big business here.

Geography

Below are very brief descriptors and hooks to give you an idea of geographic regions, as well as the larger towns. The towns will also have rough population listed in brackets, and a limited description of the place, along with two or three interesting rumors, hooks or facts. Villages will be but pins on the attached map, with a brief description and a population listed not much else.

GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS OF NOTE:

Skull-Smash Falls: These falls get their name for their casualty rate amongst brave and fool explorers and mountain climbers whom see the cliffs around the falls as some sort of 'open challenge' The slippery cliff face and stony landings generally mean those fools whom fall (which generally are most whom attempt such a thing) give the Falls their name. However recently a rumor has traveled that a climber claims that up a couple hundred meters there is a cave behind the waterfall. Story is that this climber bore witness to things dark and evil, claiming to have witnessed a trio, a coven, of witches engaged in a twisted ritual of some kind.

Skull River: This river gets its name from the region it flows forth from, the Battered Skull Range. It isn't common, due to the nearly seven hundred meter cliff and waterfall, however Joten and Green-skin raids do occasionally spill forth to raid and pillage, likely coming forth from the north of the Skull-Smash Falls, having picked their way down one of the narrow trails used by mountain goats and the like, most likely.

River Oir: Gets its name from the Dwarven word for Gold, as a few years back there was a minor gold rush, as someone seemingly successfully panned some gold. However no one has successfully panned for anything since, and none can remember the name or even race of the person whom supposedly found gold in the first place. Now the name is always accented with proper sarcasm in the dwarven tongue, so instead of pronouncing it [Oear] it is pronounced [Ouer] emphasising the 'O' sound instead of the 'ea' sound the 'i' would represent. This is a known dialect behavior for the Dwarven language.

TOWNS/CITIES:

Lakvyer: (21629): https://www.worldanvil.com/w/tariek-rough-collection-twaren-stormborn/a/lakvyer-settlement?preview=true?

Riverfell: (8607): Riverfell came to exist because of its location, this busy crossroads town of rail, river and road. It is well garrisoned, due to its location and proximity to Battered Skull Range. Indeed the town is also well supplied by necessity, to insure should they need, they can close up shop as it were, lock down all entrances and sustain through a seige for a time at least. As a garrison town they have a wide and impressive spread of craftsmen, but they are well known in particular for being home to some highly skilled leather workers, making some of the best saddles and tack in the region. They also are home to large paper mill, turning kelp and other useful riverside plants into various kinds of paper and parchment. Besides that of course the docks and rail yard offer plenty of work for those not attached to the military. Recently there are whispers that they may be locked in again soon, as story around town is that some scouts on patrol reported what they believed was ork and goblin sign only perhaps fifty or so kilometers north-west near the cliffs. However no sighting nearer the town yet and no order to seal up has come down currently, though the local military garrison is busy bodying arming up and shoring up defenses. Local police have been instructed to enforce a nine pm curfew however, which is a step that normally leads to shutting and sealing the town.

Mossfeld: (14079): Mossfeld is an oddity for its population in that it is only connected to the Iron Wheel Way. No rails or rivers run through here. However it exists to quarry the fine stone around its north and east edge and these large quarries are a big part of why it exists. Plans to begin a rail road construction to connect it to Lakvyer and the main rail system are in their contractor negotiation and diplomatic funding discussion phase between the two cities and the diplomatic representative for the province and nation to insure all proper licenses and permissions are in place, to insure they have full backing, including military support to protect the project as necessary. But no tools have been lifted and no work has as of yet begun. Currently the quarried stone is shipped via road by large cart caravans. The stone quarried serves many uses, as it is quality limestone to the north, and then to the east a long and deep shelf of proper quality granite that runs a beautiful color gradient starting at light grey at the surface layer, then down the shelf a few hundred meters it transitions into a soft pinkish hue. These quarries are open pit quarries, and utilize all manner of gear and equipment including of course, smokepowder to help loosen layers of stone for quarrying. As such miners, quarry workers specifically, are in high demand, as well as coachmen and warehouse workers and the like. That is the dominant industry here. Recently however there have been issues with some beast or other assaulting and picking off drivers or working animals as well and whatever it is, well its costing the city and quarrying operations in particular, a small fortune. They've no idea exactly what's doing it, just that its big, strikes fast, and burrows. Some of the caravan drivers of lead wagons report seeing....something, but rumors are vague. However the city has offered an official bounty.

Currently the chief of this dwarven clan is one Barchas Toragmac Holvani, a middle aged dwarf, around three hundred years old, and is known, as an oddity among his kind, for his skill with a longbow and as a hunter and tracker. He is a quiet, serious fellow, even for a dwarf.
