Mineral Bay
Some of the busiest trade waters in western Suranth, a favorite target of marauders, pirates, corsairs and raiders, but a risky proposition. Dwarves do not take kindly to their silver and gold being pilfered, and they take even less kindly to the slaughter of their kindred. Piracy in this busy shipping route, by virtue of needing to be a quick in and quick out smash and grab sort of operation often involves both. Which will inevitably put you in the local dwarven clans grudge books. That's not a healthy place to be.
This bay is named for its busy mineral trade, and make no mistake it is busy. Gold, silver, copper, tin, zin, iron, jewels, crystals, and other pretty rocks that so many like to decorate themselves with, as well of course, as modest, but healthy and steady flow of true manna gems. As such it is heavily patrolled, the Suranthi Navy maintaining a notable, almost overbearing presence. But even this only keeps things under control. It is well known that though the riches merchants can earn, especially those moving such goods internationally to Suranth's trading partners, are nothing short of absurd, well the risk is known to be the largest of any other stretch of waters in the north as well. The weather, the many empty and fractured coastlines of the various islands, with hidden coves and caves along their mountainous edges that can easily be turned into makeshift ports if one were willing to commit the time and efforts make the heavy navy presence less of a detriment and more of an open challenge. Pirates and Corsairs, be they from Mora sailing north to prey the northern waters 'unofficially' during the busy summer trade season, or local ruffians or disgruntled folk, raiders from far off lands, or even monsters, are many things. Fools? maybe. Greedy? most definitely. But no one can say they are cowards or afraid to take on great risk and challenge for wealth. So naturally pirate hunting and mercenary work as extra hands and weapons entice many, and is a common choice by the young, the skilled, or the adventurous.
