Ravea Baruntacht

These lands along this section of the Glacial Sea's coastline are under governance and trust of Clan Ravea, a smaller dwarven clan sworn to fealty to Clan Barazbarak. They are an extremely odd bunch among dwarves, preferring life on the water, the feel of a ship's deck rolling beneath their feet instead of the feel of solid stone and the tunnels of a cavern system or a mine. The region is a strong hold upon the Glacial Sea, a place that is a center of power for Suranth's Navy. The navy vessels here most often engage with pirates and raiders that ply the Glacial Sea, and hide amongst glacial islands further out on the water, as well as some of the wilder and less settled parts of the coast line. The region is considered the home base for the Suranthi Southern Fleet, that is the section of naval forces dedicated to patrolling and plying the inland river routes and the Glacial Sea. That name is a misnomer of course, as this section of the Navy patrols and handles matters in all rivers and lakes within Suranth as required. However it is an adequate name to most Suranthi, as they know the difference between them and the Northern Fleet, that which plys the coastal trade waters of the Nor'westor Sea.

The lands and waters of this holding are known as a primarily navel region, and the governing noble here is Baron Trenoric of Clan Ravea. He is known for his continued and previous service with distinction in the Suranthi Navy. A marine through and through this dwarf is an odd one amongst his people, indeed the whole clan is. They love the water, and prefer feeling the deck of a ship under their feet as opposed to dryland. He is First Captain of the Southern Fleet, and is well known for his methods of naval combat, focused less on the cannon as most others would, other than as a way to suppress enemy vessels to get within boarding range. He's learned his tactics from the very foe he most often had to vanquish. Pirates. Brigands with swift moving river boats, small schooners and other such quick and shallow moving vessels that hunt the waters of the Glacial sea and the various river systems all about Suranth. Be they bandits, brigands, green-skins or even the rare but terrifying dark elves, the tactics are very much universal, and effective. Shock, Awe, and sudden assault. Baron Trenoric embraces these bold tactics, and has proven time and again that they can be just as effective when turned against the scum that use them to prey on innocent merchant vessels. He is a flashy one for a dwarf, like any captain who truly leads, he likes to stand out, and dresses for the occasion, with bright colors. He is young for a dwarf in his position, not yet two hundred and fifty, but well respected.

The region is also well known for its fishing fleets and harvesting of the plentiful resources the waters of the Glacial Sea has to offer.

Geography

GEOGRAPHIC POINTS OF IMPORTANCE:

The geographic features of importance in the region are large and well noted in many areas, and as such, are not really unique enough to warrant much more information than has been previously provided. Those regions being the Glacial Sea or The Steppes. Suggested Reference would be to seek those regions independent entries.

CITIES AND TOWNS:

Port Krava (6107): The regional power center, and a moderately large port and naval station, this town is the seat of the Ravea clan's power, the central point of their authority. The town is known as a military port first and foremost, but is also a stable and strong functioning trade port. It is also the central market region in the area, and it is here much of the best of local fishing fleet catches will be found for sale.

Southbanks (4071): So named for the fact that it is on the southern banks of the island it was built upon, this community is well known for its master fishermen, specifically those whom work the crab fishing boats. This town is a rich one for its position, as many of the regions fishing fleets operate out of this town. Recently however, some of the crab boats have not returned from the waters to the east, and worry is spreading. Some sailors of other vessels have claimed to see strange scaled beings in the deeper waters to the east, and rumors abound of strange legends long forgotten. Fish people, merfolk, evil things from the deep....

Port Bastia (3038): Port Bastia is a naval fortification and community, and that primary function has not changed even as the fortress became the central part of a small town. It is an important support garrison for the region, and provides importance as both a naval garrison and a military outpost for forces on land as well. As such, this town is more of a large multi-sectioned military complex than a true town as one would expect or assume.
