Rohara

On the north east coast of Valerick sits the bountiful and plentiful highlands of Rohara. Rolling hills, lush riverlands, flowing southwards into lush plains make up the majority of this nation's geography. To the east, along the coast, lies a small mountain range, the Cragfallen range. To the west, as you approach the border with Raechin, the Crags stand before you. This country is known as the breadbasket of the northlands, an agricultural heartland in its own way. One of the three initial nations to establish the Northern Prosperity Alliance.

Structure

Rohara is a nation that, unlike its other trade partners, is populated heavily by humans, and therefore, has seen more generations come and go since the Sundering than any other nation. But their current leader, Queen Isabella Longram, is young, relatively speaking, but skilled in the arts of diplomacy, negotiation, and with a wide field of knowledge. She has been a key member of the new four nation version of the NPA, and in the last five years, she has implemented a variety of new shipping standards and vessels, aiding in keeping goods fresher longer.
She keeps a council of 5 highborn representatives, each watching over and governing a county of the nation in her name. Though she is called, and indeed is the Queen, as humans are more inclined to many meetings and a more...socially....involved in their government.

Public Agenda

To prosper and aid in the continued revitalizing of the continent

Assets

Rohara's most abundant assets of course are all agricultural. Wheat, Grain, Oats, Barley, Potato's, etc etc. Hearty, relatively fast growing crops that can be turned over in the shorter growing season of the northlands.
Rohara is also well known for their army, specifically for their speed and finesse. Their army is around 40000 strong, a solid 10000 or more of that are various types of cavalry, led by the Dragoons, lightly armored cavalry, armed with sabres, and of course, most importantly, wheel lock pistols and shortened rifles called carbines. These shock troops can turn the tide of almost any situation.

History

Rohara's history is a wild one, the fighting amongst the highlands on the initial march to take the nation back was brutal, bloody and concentrated. Unlike many other nations, the humans marched right in and took the fight against any and all denizens of the Abyss. Young fierce and proud descendants of the proud nation, though all of them had been born and raised away from their homeland, they had no patience for a drawn out battle.

Demography and Population

Military

Rohara's military is a well organized, and widely scoped organization. She can field an army of 39000 or so if it came to it and they had time to marshal all their forces. Well trained one and all, the nation is also well informed, their Eyes are everywhere, and in this case that isn't just a saying, their intelligence organization are simply called the Eyes. As to their actual army, the spear tip of their forces, though none of them use spears, are the dangerous, skillful and veteran core of the Dragoons. Light armored, with carbines and pistols, along with long sabres. They are fast, experienced and damn deadly.

Technological Level

Early to Mid Renaissance

Religion

Like all other nations, the worship of any of the nine heroes of lore is acceptable, even encouraged here. But the favored God here is Feyheart. The beliefs of this religion center around the enjoyment and joy of life's simple pleasures and freedoms. His cathedral sits in Adra, a beautiful building, a church, but also a place to enjoy. Poetry, artwork, sculptures, paintings, theater, music, fine food and drink, dance, all are offered here as a gathering of the simple joys life has to offer.

Foreign Relations

NPA (Northern Prosperity Agreement) Partners: Suranth, Raechin, Deepwood
Allowance for the free and unrestricted trade of goods between these four nations, allowing for equal value exchange, based on market value, of goods. Rohara contributes a large degree of grain and wheat, corn and potatoes, and other such foods. As such foods cannot be cultivated easily, if at all, in these other countries. They also export spices, a much sought after product. Metal, lumber, fruit, hides and various other items are imported in return, as Rohara has no real quantity of metal or minerals within her borders, and though they've lumber available, it is of smaller and lower quality, not cared for/ aided in its natural growth by druidic talents.
A member of the Heartland Defense Pact: Rohara, Raechin, Susma and Valewyr
This pact is an oath to never raze, raid or otherwise willfully and violently interfere with the agricultural production in the heartland known as 'The Golden Sea'. It is also an oath to protect and defend the land, the people whom work it, and the food supply it allows us all to grow at any and all costs, against any and all threats. An oath to last in perpetuity

Agriculture & Industry

Rohara as a nation is an agricultural power. They are the breadbasket of the north-lands, the loamy, thick, soil of these hill lands making for excellent farmland. Wheat, Corn, Potatoes, Turnips, all manner of vegetable are grown here in large amounts.

Trade & Transport

Trade is, as with all four member nations of the NPA always flowing in out by sea, but in Rohara's case, her road system is perhaps the best developed of all the Northern Countries, spanning the nation in many patterns. Easily the most interconnected country of the four, this has encouraged a unity and a strong internalized trade economy not seen as heavily in other three northern countries.

Education

Public education is a far more used system in Rohara than in any other nation on Valerick, this is due to a tighter knit unity, and due to the larger percentage of human citizens. It is not mandatory, however, and many of the longer lived inhabitants choose to educate their own.

Infrastructure

Aqueducts, technology and structural architecture acquired and constructed by dwarven tradesmen from Suranth, as part of the major trade negotiations at the onset of their entering into the Northern Prosperity Alliance, continues to serve, the longevity of dwarven architecture shown in the limited maintenance needed. Sewer systems in larger towns (north of 30 000) and again, as is a theme in the north-lands, well fortified cities and settlements.

Legislative Body
Rohara's Legislative body works in two stages. First each county has elected officials, representatives of the citizenry that are elected every five years. Twice a year they all gather and spend a great deal of effort and time over a week, attacking issues and discussing solution, laws, regulations. They finalize a list of potential laws, law changes, regulations, public works and funding needs, etc. Once that list is finalized, it is passed on for royal approval.   Queen Isabella and her advisers, and the nobles in charge of each county meet twice a year as well, in the capital. These meetings are offset by 3 months from the civil council's meetings. They deliberate, weigh the positives and negatives of the proposed laws and public works etc. Over the course of a week, they decide which changes to adopt, which works to fund, and so on. Though this is democratic to a point, Queen Isabella does have more power than the rest, her vote counting as 2 of theirs, meaning at least 4 of the 5 lords must disagree with their queen to tip the vote. To avoid any sort of 'favor voting' Queen Isabella by tradition votes last on every issue and does so not knowing the votes of her nobles. Those votes are held by in confidence, anonymous and counted by a third party.
Judicial Body
Rohara, like many of the her fellow NPA nations, has their military employed full time, shifting them into law enforcement, besides various other tasks necessary and vital to maintaining the nation. The average regular soldier is also generally a town guard in the city of his birth, though they all rotated and spend some time in the year serving in road and highway security and patrol, serving at the nearest garrison.
