Common Idioms
General Usage
The people of Shikahn tend to create idioms that can appear rather disparaging to other races. In years gone by, such idioms were thrown around with true vitriol. Younger generations use them in a much more casual and teasing sense. Its easy to tell if a person means real harm with their words, or if they mean it in a joking manner. These idioms have shifted to be used in Common, the language spoken by most races of Tarin as a second language. The idioms are now considered largely harmless and mostly amusing statements. It isn't uncommon for the races mentioned in the idioms to use them to refer to themselves. Younger generations seem to relish and enjoy making jokes at their own expense to amuse their peers. Knight are especially notorious for making these jokes, much to the surprise and delight of mortals they interact with.Knights and Idioms
Although it is common for Knights to use these idioms, it is also quite common for Knights to be somewhat out of touch with their usage. Particularly old Knights may use idioms that haven't been heard in hundreds of years and confuse the mortals they are speaking with. Or, the mortals may use an idiom that used to mean something completely different and may offend or confuse the Knight.
Old Knights tend to try very hard to fit in with their younger counterparts, much to the chagrin and amusement of their younger friends.
