Classes by Clan

Your character can have any class that appears in the Player's Handbook (or other sources, with your DM's permission). Certain classes and subclasses are especially appropriate for particular clans, reflecting the traditions and training of those guilds. This section can help you choose a clan if you already know what class you want to play.  

Barbarian

If you want to play a barbarian, your most likely clan is Clan Atarka, but you could also put your rage to work with the raiders of Clan Kolaghan.   Atarka barbarians of the often choose the path of the Totem Warrior and a bear totem spirit.

Bard

On Tarkir, bards fill a variety of functions and can be found among the all the clans as oral historians, war singers, spies, or entertainers. Clan Ojutai has many lore keepers that copy down the lectures of the Great Teacher. War singers can be found in clans Atarka, Dromoka, and Kolaghan singing of glory and heroics. Whispers abound of the shadows in clan Silumgar's keep that pilfer knowledge as easily as coin from their targets.

Though the worship of gods isn't widespread on Tarkir, faiths to strong ideals or ancestors exist that clerics dedicate themselves to serving. These exist primarily within clans Atarka, Dromoka, Ojutai, and Silumgar. They most often use their clan insignia as their holy symbol.

Druid

Druid characters are typically associated with clans Atarka, Dromoka, Kolaghan, and Silumgar. Druid circles vary wildly from one to the next. Some may be tightly aligned with their clan, while others may be composed by members of two or more clans.

Fighter

Fighters are common in almost every clan. In a world where constant tension among the guilds often blooms into physical violence, fighters are the core of most guilds' defenses.

Monk

Unarmed fighting styles are primarily practiced by the monks of clan Ojutai, with each of the Ojutai sanctuaries having its own distinct style of martial arts. The Silumgar practice an art that focuses on stealth and subterfuge, taught by Ojutai defectors. Finally, the Dromoka are instructed in the art of suncalling. Harnessing searing light to incinerate their foes.

Ranger

Standing as a bastion between civilization and the wilderness, Dromoka rangers scout the vast steppes and other wild areas of Tarkir. Kolaghan rangers serve a similar role, though they are focused on finding weaknesses in the borders of rival clans. Silumgar rangers are focused on harassing invaders to the Sagu Jungle.

Rogues are most at home in clan Silumgar. Though plenty can be found in clan Kolaghan. Clan Ojutai is also known to make use of subtlety and subterfuge with spies.

Tarkir's sorcerers usually attribute their magical power not to bloodlines or cosmic forces, but to blessings from their dragonlords.

Warlock

In a handful of clans, service to a powerful individual is common among warlocks. Warlocks are most often found in clans Silumgar and Atarka.   Powerful undead liches may bestow contracts power to any member of Silumgar in exchange for service. Fiends often tempt both members of Kolaghan and Silumgar with offers of power. While nature aligned fey may reach out to those of Atakra.   Still, celestial ki-rin have been known to bestow their power on a lucky few who know where to find them.

Wizard
