250 years ago, Tarrorah was shaken by unknown forces known as the Cataclysm. Ballustrade, the human colony in the Southern-most part of the province of Naidos, became an ark for those looking to escape the devastation which was being wrought upon the surrounding lands. Its purpose was to serve as a time capsule in a plane separate from its home, and to eventually return once either it had been deemed safe, or the need for resources demanded it. Now, after centuries of displacement, they re-emerge into a world that is not at all their own. Tears have opened almost everywhere, creating doorways between different universes - different realities. Through these tears new people have come, with different cultures, different values, and different gods... The wars waged by the new and the old peoples have reduced much of the once fertile valley to desolate wastelands. Fights between gods have created new mountain ranges and seas, often completely swallowing populations of once peaceful peoples, and left massive corpses strewn around to be picked at by birds and monsters. One being stands behind it all, a product and progenitor of the tears; Janus. As more tears opened, this god of doorways and choices absorbed the essence of every other god of these domains who entered. Driven mad by the infinite paths and dilemmas he saw, he began to fragment. Now, his many aspects scheme and control the lives of the mortals in Contritum, each to their own ends. Some wish to see the destruction of all, some seek an end to their own suffering. But one thing is certain: it will all come down to a single decision. Can the people of Ballustrade reclaim their post-apocalyptic homeland? Or, maybe, is it too late to even try?
