Goblins

Possessed of cunning, surprising agility, and endurance, goblinoids are capable creatures. Standing at 4 to 5 feet these green skinned creatures possess sharp teeth, long pointed ears, and wispy thin hair. Goblinoids once ruled Khorvaire before the coming of humans. With few aside from scattered tribes of orcs to oppose them, they built great nations on Khorvaire. The greatest among these was the unified Empire of Dhakaan.

Ancient Glory

Across Khorvaire. the bones of the Empire of Dhakaan stand as a reminder of what goblinoids are capable of. One of the greatest monuments still standing in Khorvaire is the Six Kings in the Graywall Mountains of Breland. There, carved from the rock, six goblin warlords stand over a thousand feet high, overlooking a narrow valley. Modern goblinoid warlords trek to the valley to pay homage to their ancestors. Those who have done so have had great successes. Caves under the kings are said to be full of ancient Dhakaani artifacts, guarded by ghosts of Dhakaani champions. The Dhakaani nation lasted eleven thousand years, until the coming of the Thing Man Was Not Meant to Know spelled the end of their age. Although the Things were eventually banished, the Empire of Dhakaan was left in shambles. By the time humans arrived on Khorvaire, all that remained were isolated goblinoid clans surviving on the few useful remains of their fallen realm. With no one to unite them, the goblinoids stood no chance against human expansion. They fell to human swords, went into hiding, or integrated with humans—often as slaves.   Three thousand years later, during the height of the Great War the Warlord Haruuc united the goblinoid tribes and carved out the country of Darguun to harken back the days of goblin glory, but as the war ended and the goblins no longer had a common enemy old feuds rekindled and the country is constantly on the precipice of falling back to tribal warfare.

Religion

The old Dhakaani Empire had their own names for the Sovereign Host, but as the empire collapsed goblins abandoned their worship, some tribes turning secular, others reverting to shamanism, and some even choosing to revere the Things Man Was Not Meant to Know that toppled their great empire.   When the High Warlord Haruuc united the goblin tribes into the nation of Darguun he brought with his the teachings of the Path of Light from the Sarlonan continent as a way to introduce discipline into the tribes, but so far the practice has only caught on in the high circles of goblinoid society.
