Second Session Recap
Having freed Neffer Rocktoe from his captivity, the group prepares to travel back to HQ, but is stopped when Neffer proclaims he won't be going. He says he can't leave his squadmates to the hand of Orcs to be tormented and killed.
In the morning Vasu checks in with Sgt Lightfoot, receiving new orders to rescue these other IDF soldiers as well, if at all possible. Basilisk Squad moves out, ready to assault the patrol and retrieve their captured comrades in arms.
Meanwhile, Zed and his squad commander Roderick are being used as laborers at the Orc camp, and waiting for the right moment to break loose and get away. In the dawn, during the breaking light, as the Orcs sleep around them, Zed and Roderick use tools and axes to break the doors of their cages, getting away by the skin of their teeth with Orcs chasing them.
In the forest, Zed uses a trap to weaken the orc patrol before he and Roderick jump the survivors with improvised weapons, overcoming them and doubling back to camp for their equipment.
Vasu leads the squad to the camp, where Neffer confirms his friends had been held. They sneak up and, when spotted, charge in. Eventually, the manage to wipe out the orcs at camp just as Roderick and Zed arrive back. After a reunion with Neffer, and introductions, the two groups decide to head out asap.
That's when he arrives.
An orc the size of a giant, dwarfing even Gregor, adorned in sinister spiked plate and brandishing a cruel blacksteel blade, the slayer of Zed's squadmate Elsar enters the clearing. Tor'e tries to catch him off guard by literally throwing a tree log at him, and manages to pull it off, launching it through the air directly towards him. Vasu, being closest, uses this as an opportunity to strike while the Orc leader is distracted.
The Orc, powered by a jolt of energy from the blade, moves with unnatural speed, slicing the log in half cleanly before stepping forward and skewering Vasu before she can strike. He holds her aloft on his blade while her soul is forcibly removed and imprisoned in the gemstone inlaid into the blade's hilt.
The trek home is rather quiet. All are in mourning.
On the way home, a pair of bugbear with a trained attack bear try to waylay the group, but are thwarted.
Both squads arrive back and HQ to report, and learn of their next assignment. Gregor is now in command of the squad.
