Lizardfolk

It's hard to read a scaled one ay? Whatever emotions they got, they keep 'em buried under the surface. Can't exactly recommend engagin' 'em in a conversation unless you got company with ya'.
- Dorrovin Rubble, Tabaxi Cartographer
Hidden far outside of typical society deep in humid swamps and forests are the Lizardfolk, inscrutable scaled denizens of the dangerous waters. Lizardfolk are distant relatives to Dragonborn; centuries of isolation in the marshes have altered their personalities and physiology to suit the dangers the face: starvation and creatures who lurk in the waters below. They have become cold, in many ways dispassionate, with little concept of ownership and the moral codes of those who flock to cities.

Code of the Wilds

Lizardfolk face constant adversity in their world. The wetlands they occupy hide numerous dangers that they have learned to deal with and face without fear or courage. Large predators hiding under the water, deadly infections transmitted by insects, and foreign soldiers who threaten their homes. Lizardfolk are a pragmatic people and above even that, an inconsiderate people. A fallen Lizardfolk is rarely given a ritualistic passing, rather they are consumed by the other members of the tribe, but a cog in the ever turning mechanism of life.

Cold Blooded

Lizardfolk often act based purely on a handful of base principals and react typically without emotion. Fearsome threats are not frightening but an understood obstacle best left alone than entangled with. Lost companions are not mourned but understood to simply now be a missing asset they once owned. While this cold and distant personality makes for less than kind companions, some Lizardfolk come to understand the reactions of others, while they have great difficulty authentically replicating them, their efforts to empathize with others and natural talents make them fearsome and close companions.
