To imagine the amount of poor souls that traveled through these halls, the amount of experiments that did not succeed, and worst of all... The one that did succeed."

"Yuan-Ti Chimeric Compound", named by its discoverer Sabastian Mendo, is a series of tunnels cleared out by the Ferocious Chimera. This underground compound proved out to be much more than it appeared to be on the outside, with grim implications that archeologists have afterwards inspected.

Purpose

Judging from the first three rooms of the compound, it would seem like the facility was used for purification and relaxation. Before all that focused towards the centaur slaves of the ancient Empire of Phorexia. Many walls and carvings depict centaurs and yuan-ti living peacefully, although with much of the furniture destroyed over the centuries passing the exact outlook of these rooms is impossible to determine. The truth of these halls would reveal through a grotesque hidden passage, that in its artwork revealed the truth; a yuan-ti greeting a centaur ripping off their arm.
It would seem like the "spa and relaxation" rooms were in the end a decoy to lure centaurs to let down their guards in these halls. For beneath these halls, after a treacherous, entrapped passage, were cells enforced with necromantic magic to prevent any centaur from escaping. Centaurs were stored here with the pure meaning of performing cruel experiments on them in trying to cross the yuan-ti biology with that of the centaurs.
From the living quarters of the facility's "staff" it can be determined that not too many yuan-ti's lived here, most likely only the key personnel. However, these yuan-ti had an unique assistant named "Aezt'ocan" who still continued to prowl and to protect these hallways against intruders as Ferocious Chimera cleared the dungeon out. It is unknown if additional guards lived here, or if the centaur were enslaved into absolute submission so that there was no need for further guards.

The First

After what can only be speculated to be dozens of experiments, first bore fruit; a horrifying mixture of yuan-ti and centaur was formed. Either the strange mutant was far too powerful, chaotic, or rebellious to be handled or it had gone completely insane, because the yuan-ti modified the room in which it was created to act as a stasis chamber, keeping Zachan the First locked in for centuries to come, until the Ferocious Chimera broke Zachan's seal by opening the door.
Considering the slave revolt and the freedom of Freefolk, that battle might've gone a lot differently if the yuan-ti had succeeded in creating more of these "Yuan-Ti Dragoons" to lead their troops in battle.

Current Use

The Chimeric Compound is being researched, with Sabastian Mendo as a lead examiner on a field-trip enforced by the Conclave of the Serpent. It seems like some of the information behind Zachan's creation is retrievable, but held safe within the buildings of the Learner's Perch from ill-meaning hands.
