History of Arcadia

The timeline of Arcadia's settled history, from when the planet was first charted until the present day (2650).

    Charting of Arcas-II
    Discovery, Exploration

Crew of the EES Hudson, an exploratory vessel of the Earth Empire Interstellar Exploratory Division (EEIED), charts the planet of Arcas-II in the Arcas system. It is categorised as a Tier 1 garden world of significant scientific and colonisation interest. Survey results are beamed back to Earth via FTLCB's (faster than light communications buoys) the very same day.

    Construction of ORS-725/52 'Lucky'
    Construction beginning/end

ORS (Orbital Research Station) 725/52 'Lucky' is commissioned by EEIED at the behest of the Earth Empire Scientific Institution (EESI), as a base of operations for remote exploration and sample analysing of Arcas-II. It is the first step on the route to colonisation efforts. By the time the station is fully operational, it houses a crew of almost 150 people.

    First Drone-fall
    Expedition

The first drones are sent down from ORS-725/52 'Lucky' to the surface of Arcas-II. Most are concentrated around the largest continents, with the rest earmarked for the smaller continents, islands, and oceans. The people on the research station get their first look at the planet's surface through clear camera feeds, instantly amazed by the biodiversity of the planet and its striking similarities to Earth.

    The First Settlers
    Expedition

With the Earth Empire claiming first settlement rights, they send a small team of scientists, engineers, and military personnel to Arcas-II to set up the first research station, Endeavour, on an open plain of the largest continent. As per tradition, the first person to step foot on the planet christens it with a name; Dr. Katerina Dietrich, a xenobiologist and chief of the expedition's science staff, chooses Arcadia.

    Endeavour Research Station is Built
    Construction beginning/end

Endeavour Research Station, the first settlement of human and Vasgarth construction on the planet, is built. Construction time takes only ten days, as most of the work is done remotely with drones and pre-programmed robotic workers. It will eventually become the largest and most populous settlement on Arcadia, and the capital of the Commonwealth Front of Arcadian Science.

    ORS-725/52 'Lucky' Decommissioned
    Financial Event

With the scientific expeditions on Arcadia well underway, there is considered to be no need for an orbital research station any longer. The Earth Empire orders its decommissioning, with plans for the construction of the first colony hubs designed to temporarily house colonists before they embark to the planet's surface being drawn up. 'Lucky' was to be utilised in this new construction project, but it was barely halfway through decommissioning before The Collapse. Contact with the station from the planet's surface was lost, giving the first indication to Arcadia's inhabitants that something disastrous was happening within the system.

    The Collapse
    Disaster / Destruction

Mazerites destroy a whole swathe of the nav beacons used to plot a course to Arcadia, possibly because part of the route could lead Earth Empire forces to their homeworld. Supply ships en route to Arcadia, along with many communications arrays, are also thought to be destroyed. The inhabitants of the planet call this event 'The Collapse', as it marks the moment they were cut off from the rest of civilised space. Although left unmolested by the Mazerites themselves, Arcadians are forced to survive on their own, leading to widespread chaos, fear, and in some cases, violence.

    The Last Message
    Military action

The last message received from off-planet was beamed across all channels around midnight for most inhabitants of Arcadia. It consisted of the garbled voice of a Vasgarth speaking a strange dialect of their native tongue, and despite the interference, it could be roughly translated to "We see you. Soon the darkness will come." A recording of the message can be found in the Commonwealth's archives, although from the moment it was broadcast up until the present day, no Arcadian knows what the message means exactly, beyond it being a threat of some kind. It is assumed that it was sent by a Mazerite ship within the system, which was most likely responsible for destroying the navigation and communication buoys that cut the planet off.

Forming of The Commonwealth Front of Arcadian Science
    Founding

After two years of chaos and violence in the wake of The Collapse, the fractured settlements of the Kiliomengi Plains are brought together under the banner of the newly-formed Commonwealth Front of Arcadian Science, which has its origins in the Earth Empire expeditions first sent to Arcadia. The settlement of Endeavour is made the capital of this new faction.

    Founding

The burgeoning independent settlements of the Anapteros Forest agree to join together to form The Northern Alliance, a new faction of people who place sustainability and eco-awareness as a top priority. They immediately designate the largest settlement of Haven to be their capital.

Statue Commemorating Katerina Dietrich is Erected
    Artistic creation

To mark 100 years since the founding of the Commonwealth, a polished granite statue is erected outside Dietrich Plaza Building commemorating Dr. Katerina Dietrich, one of the most prominent founders of the CFAS and the first human to step foot on Arcadia, naming the planet in the process. Initially, the statue was going to be a likeness of Dr. Dietrich herself, but protests from those who had known her were adamant that she would not have approved of something so egotistical. Instead, the faction's logo, which Dr. Dietrich had designed herself, was portrayed, with a memorial plaque displayed beneath.
