The Contract forbids the six countries to wage war against each other and promises aid and assistance in face of the threat of the darkspawn.

All six heads of the countries signed the contract, that holds until the darkspawn is all wiped out for good.   It also elects the most powerful and competent individuals to start the Order of the Triad. They are in charge of leading the fight against the darkspawn and are considered heroes of the era. They earned respect all through Te'nuron and there were people of all races and regions included in the Order.   They held the power to close the veils and fight the darkspawn with special weapons.
