The volcano at the Eastern Peak errupted, causing destruction all around and destroying part of Eclus and Astra. After that it incites disagreement over the ownership of the volcano.

Pressure was building inside the volcano for a long time and it errupted in 1008 RF. The Fallout destroyed multiple cities on Eclus and Astra.   After the ash settled, Astra was first to inspect the volcano and find essentially a gold mine of stone compressed to jewels, or literal rocks of gold, so Astra claimed the volcano that was in Eclus territory for centuries, to mine and collect those riches.   The riches actually enabled Astra to have a boom in wealth and knowledge, but the Dragonborns in Eclus weren't so happy about it, since the volcano was the center of their culture for ages.   The situation got more tense over the years until it ended in a war between the two countries.
