Neon Shadows #6 - Then There Was War

General Summary

The Mission Mission

Wednesday, 9AM 2/16/2022   The air was crisp under the murky overpass near Barton Street Mission when Desmond, Jay, and Deucalion, the city's shadowy protectors, convened. They had received a curious tip-off—an anonymous email to Franny, warning her to keep Gina away from the mission on 2/16/2022. The chill wind seemed to whisper secrets as they surveyed their surroundings, the distant rumble of the city their constant companion.

Bible Soup

The missiong building was a four-story structure with a bustling soup kitchen visible through tall windows. Lines of downtrodden souls stretched from its doors, their faces etched with the hard stories of the streets. Desmond, disguised in his disheveled street, infiltrated the queue to scout the inside. Jay, with eyes like a hawk, perched atop a nearby building, while Deucalion lurked in the shadows, their silent guardian. Across the street, missionaries mingled with locals, bibles in hand, a stark contrast to the 66 Blades gang members loitering nearby, their laughter slicing through the somber air like knives.

A Second Helping of Death

Wednesday, 1PM 2/16/2022 The quiet tension shattered around one PM. Jay's sharp gaze caught the sinister glint of gun barrels from an approaching car. It erupted in a hail of bullets—members of the Overlords gang unleashing chaos with their AK-47s. The sound of gunfire and screams filled the block, a macabre symphony of violence. A retaliatory crash from a 66 Blades truck turned the scene into a battlefield. Amidst the chaos, Desmond herded bystanders to safety with a barrier of energy, while Jay's lasers missed their intended targets but found the engine of an assailant's car, igniting further havoc.

Horizon On Fire

As the battle waged into the evening, the area transformed into an inferno of conflict and revenge. Buildings burned, and the night sky was lit by the ominous glow of flames and the distant echo of explosions. The vigilantes, their purpose served for the moment, retreated towards the Chinese district, their car radio crackling with orders for evacuation as mechanized drop ships roared overhead.

The Night's Curtain

Wednesday, 3PM 2/16/2022   In the aftermath, as they drove away, the echoes of war rang in their ears. The city, like a wounded beast, growled in the distance. What had started as a simple investigation had spiraled into an urban warfare, leaving our vigilantes to ponder their next move. After some thought, Desmond checked the package of drugs from Gina's safe and found a note 'Barton Street Mission, 1PM 2/16, Jaime, Bus.' Finally, the group had a connection between Gina and the Mission, but where does that take them now?   Deucalion called Jocko, hoping to get insight into what could motivate the Overlords to attack the 66 Blades. In his abrasive yet informative manner, he thinks the Overlords are trying to prove a point by smashing up an independent gang. It might be related to some larger scheme designed to draw Law Bringer's attention away from a bigger operation but, honestly, the Overlords aren't that sophisticated and don't need to be to make their money. More likely, Buckshot is sending a message - fall in line or suffer the bullet-riddled consequences.   With the horizon still ablaze and the threat of more violence looming, one thing was clear: their fight was far from over. As the night drew its dark curtain, the story, like the city's troubles, promised only to thicken.
