Jace was/is/will be a young soldier in the Time Wars. When the Temporal Armistace was/will be signed, his unit was disbanded. But his leaders weren't so sure that the Armistice would hold, so they sent Jace to a forgotten corner of history to act as a sleeper agent should hostilities or enemy covert actions resume. Most of Jace's memories were suppressed in case of capture by hostile forces.
