The Crescent Pools

The crescent pools is the name given to the hot springs that exist on a floating island in Liyanor. They are an essential part to the choosing of the nations rulers, as they must complete a solitary journey there to be blessed inside the pools and reborn as Mooncrescent. They are a very sacred place to the Liyanori peoples, the very foundation of their philosophy and rule and as no outsider has ever been allowed to see them.

Geography

Situated on top of the floating island in the Southwest of Liyanor, the crescent pools lie nestled in between the hills dot the horizon of the island. They are surrounded by ancient trees whose branches stretch out over the pools, reflecting the light of the moons that has given the valley its name. Brushes and plants sprout along the edges of the pools, nurturing themselves on the ancient waters, their petals moist from the condensation that emerges from these hot pools. The entire area is submerged in mist that is said to come from the essence of the first mooncrescent, but foreign scholars think that the pools rest on top of a large Etherium deposit that gives the island it's floating properties.

Fauna & Flora

It is said that the ancient trees that surround the pools are the souls of those who failed their quest to become mooncrescent, become eternal around the pools to watch over future generations of aspirants. It is hard to gauge the reality of this, since the pools and island is a sacred place to the peoples of Liyanor, and the only ones who return from them have become mooncrescent, stepping up as the heirs to the throne.   The island is known as the home to various species of birds, as they are the only ones who can easily travel there. It is thought that many species of birds have their mating rituals up there, sometimes building nests for months at a time to wait for potential mates, and because there are no other living species known to make their homes up there the islands offer a safe space free from predators.
