Keepers of the Tongue

The Keepers of the Tongue is an ethno-religious organization made up of a Kenku priesthood that claim to be able to perfectly mimic the voice of the Great Corvid from before The Unmaking

Divine Origins

The Keepers of the Tongue claim that before the Tellandrian Gods sealed Tellandria from themselves and the Progenitors, the Great Corvid gave the Kenku one final parting gift: his voice. A champion of the Kenku was chosen to bear the gift of the Great Corvid's voice and share it with those among him who he found to be worthy.

Though the claim by the Keepers that they carry the actual voice of the Great Corvid with them are sometimes disputed, most historians agree that the religion likely did originate during or shortly after The Unmaking.

Tenets of Faith

The Keepers of the Tongue venerate mimicry, and view copying and replication to be virtuous. Followers of the Keepers of the Tongue, Kenku or no, are expected to hone their skills in mimicry and replication as a holy act.

Priesthood

The Keepers of the Tongue are led by a group of priests called Godspeakers. The Godspeakers are all Kenku who are chosen for their mental and physical health, and their power of mimicry. When they are inducted into the priesthood, they learn to perfectly mimic a phrase passed down from Godspeaker to Godspeaker that is said to be the last divine words uttered by the Great Corvid before the creation of the Rings of Tellandria at the end of The Unmaking
