Nukugh Urâk
Known as White Orc in the Merchant Tongue.
"I had mistaken the snow orc for a bear of some kind, but a bite from a scimitar open my eyes, quite literally." - Rurik, Dwarven fighter of Norr Bharr
Physiology
Although many ores dwell in mounrains, only the snow ores make their permanent residences above the rree line. They are the most rare of the ore breeds, being only a few thousand in number across the whole of Tellene, and rarely venture our of the high mountain ranges they call home. Like their desert dwelling relatives they have a lower physical sttengrh than the other sub-breeds. To compensate they possess chick layers of sub-dermal fat and pale body hair, often referred co as fur by those few that have seen them. Even with less muscle, they are exrremely bulky and weigh as much as 50% more than a human of similar height and build. They have low hung bodies, more so than other sub-breeds, and often drag rht>ir knuckles through the snow as they walk. Their hair covers almost their entire body and helps to trap air, which is warmed by the body hear of the ore and helps protect him against the cold wind that howls through the mountains. Living in the snow and ice has not dimmed the ores barred of the sun, which during the day shines brightly, reflecting off the ice and snow of their homelands. Although they suffer no worse rhan other varieties of ores, they shun dayligbr hours more so and rarely leave rhe darkness of their caves during the hours of daylight. Their eyes take in small amouncs of light reflected by the snow and ice and enhance it. This gives them excellent nocnimal vision on clear nights at the expense of a reduced Cield of vision (roughly a maximum of 6o degrees under such conditions).Psychology
White ores are very rarely seen by folk other than trappers and rangers, given that they rarely leave the higher parts of mountains, even to raid. Most often they raid against ores and other goblinoids living on the lower slopes but are not above rajding the foothills when times are hard. Isolated settlements in these areas have been known ro vanish to the last animal during bad winters. Although white orcs know of fire, there ate fewer trees in the highest peaks, and fire is a luxury more than a comfort. They are happy with campfire sized conflagrations, bur larger fires cause a strange reaction. On the one hand they are attracted by the heat, and yet on the other the sheer size of the fire drives terror into their hearts. The result is a bizarre dance-like effect, in which the ores first move closer ro the source of the beat and then hurriedly retreat from it to a safe distance. The lack of readily available fire has also forced them to adopr varied torment techniques. With heated implements not being available, they have adopted to using the natural climate as a weapon of torment. Victims are taken naked into an exposed area of mountain and left to face the elements. In many areas, frostbite can set in within a few hours and is extremely painful. Such methods lead to a higher percentage of deaths amongst victims; as hypothermia begins to overtake the victims, drifting snow may cover them. The orcs typically find these lost prisoners months larer when the spring thaw arrives. When thawed, the flesh is still palatable and, in times of bountiful hunting, the ores deliberately leave carcasses to freeze as a method of preserving food for lean rimes.Ability Scores
