Monarch
The ruler of the Kingdom of is the Monarch. While it can be a noble of any gender, no one has any recollection of it ever being anyone other than a man.
The first Monarch of Nemea was Holy Alcides himself, then known as King Alcides. The present day monarch is King Mikalos Tinscuil. His Heir Apparent is Arianne Tinscuil, his eldest legitimate child.
The Royal Seat is at the Palace in Vanax City, on the Isle of Vanax. It sits strategically in the middle of the Niashard Sea, between the four Nemean Provinces of Beleterra, Dyodia, Myrea, and the Southlands.
Appointment
There is an historic ritual ceremony performed to crown a new Monarch. It requires the presence of a Nestor and a representative from the Divine Duality.
Duties
The Monarch is under a moral obligation to guard the Kingdom of Nemea from foreign enemies. This includes protecting their people and borders from the creatures that inhabit the Lost Lands.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Individual Monarchs and other Royals have a variety of preferred crowns or tiaras that are passed down in the royal family. But the most important Royal item is the Rhadanthium Staff known as Keraunos. With jagged engravings of lightning bolts, and slightly jagged itself, it instantly brings to mind the power of thunder and lightning.
King Mikalos, and other High Nobility, frequently wear a top made from velvet that requires the arms be put into the sleeves and it gets buttoned up the back, in such a way that someone must help put it on or off. The fact that it requires assistance adds to its prestige.
History
Immediately after Mikalos' coronation, there was an attempted coup known today only as "Assassins in the Grove". The attempted assassination took place in the lemon grove just outside Mikalos' own rooms, and must have been an inside job.
