Molsarki
Demographics
Molsarki's population is largely the descendants of Diakai colonists, but is relatively diverse due to its position at a crossroads of trade. Local peoples and foreigners live in sizable numbers, including Erabaxi, Satri, Barturi, other Diakai, among others.
Government
The city has a unique government compared to other Diakai cities. It is governed by a combination of an oligarchy, monarchy, and democracy. All adult male descendants of the original founders are given the right to vote in a special election. The candidates for the election year are chosen by lot (although the wealthy are disproportionately selected). All those with a vote then select the man they want to rule the city for two years. Called the Chief Archon, he is charged with leading the army and heading the council of elders. Potential candidates are eligible for the lot every three election years, or six years.
Defences
Molsarki's walls have been the subject of several poems detailing the immaculate stone masonry and massive height. Being a massive producer of purple dye and textiles, the city's inhabitants both needed to defend their prized industry and had the gold to do so. The walls are built from local grayish-yellow stone.
Industry & Trade
The purple trade - which the Diakai learned from the local people - is the most famous industry, but far from the city's only income source. A thriving slave market plies its trade here as well - providing slaves from eastern locales to Diakai cities further west.
History
Molsarki was founded by colonists from Mesadari.
Architecture
The architecture is largely based on that of the (insert ethnicity here) tribe - the group that founded Molsarki.
Geography
Molsarki is nestled in a sandy and rocky bay on the Inland Sea's eastern end. Its location is great both for ships entering its port and for raising countless sea snails.
Natural Resources
The shallow waters off Molsarki's coast hold countless of the precious mollusks that produce purple dye. The Diakai living there have created massive stone pools connected to the sea to breed the snails. This allows the snail farmers to raise snails without needing to harvest them from the sea bed.
Founding Date
about two hundred years before the Second Satri Invasion of Diakai
Alternative Name(s)
City of Porphyry, Purple City
